Seems like people don`t really care much about keeping thier cars up now a days. Is it just me or have some of you noticed, seems like one out of fifty look like any one has bothered to wash and wax. Maybe I`m just getting a little nuts.

no doubt. i would say we are the 10% that cares. some cars NEVER see a wash let alone a wax. it gets washed when it rains is a good one.

Seems like people don`t care about their own cars or anyone else`s. People just don`t take pride in their stuff in general.
I got my first door dig last week on my truck. I`m not positive where it happened but I think it was at Home Depot. When I went in no one was parked next to me and when I left there was a beat up Tahoe parked next to me. No where else was anyone parked on my passenger side.
One would see it everywhere, too many things to do but they forget the car that gets them there.

Couldn`t agree more.
Many see their second most expensive investment as something that they just don`t need to maintain, mechanically or cosmetically. Many believe it will always get them where and when they need to get there.
Kinda of reminds me about how many of my friends take car of the computer or laptops. I`ve seen them use their laptops for dinner trays, coasters, placemats etc. I`ve seen them never update their PC`s or better yet not even have an antivirus installed.
At some point early in my life I realized I needed to learn how to maintain my property to keep them running at their peak. I now build my own computers and fix my friends and families when needed. I can pull or replace my engine and do all my mechanical work etc etc.
Fact is, once I`m taught something I love to continue to learn more about it and get better at using it. I pitty those other people who just use an item and don`t try to understand what makes it tic.
We are the exception and not the rule......
Believe it or not, most car owners are very satisfied with the drive through wash and wax, some call them swirl-o-matics... Drive out the other end and there stands 2 guys who can`t speak a lick of English holding some pretty grubby bash towels ready to dry the finish as fast as they can....Quality is #1!!

The ones that go to the swirl them up regularly actually think they are taking care of the car. The problem is the damage that is being done is gradual so it is not immediately obvious.
If they saw what was happening, some (not all) may consider using places that use safer wash techniques.
This is where the opportunistic detailer has an opportunity to sell his or her services.

i`m always amazed that people can ride around, oblivious to what their rides look like. where would the world be without us, "the few, the proud, the oc detailers"
It is the no swirl zone.

It`s gotten worse and worse it seems. I think people are just dealing with a dirty car for a lot of reasons. I blame the heat, I blame their schedules, and most of all I blame the economy...
Get your shine on!
This thread is just a reminder of why I don`t buy used cars or trucks without exhaustive inspections of the paint and mechanical parts of the vehicle. An expert detailer can take a pig of a car that`s never been washed, waxed or mechanically maintained and make it look like something off the showroom floor.
One of the things I have noticed while looking for a newer vehicle, is that alot of the 2012 vehicles do not come with body side moldings. If you look at their extra`s/options they are not listed you need to order aftermarket. It looks like none of the designers go shopping or have ever had a door slam there door or have someone push a shopping cart into them. People just do not care about how their cars look. The imaginary clean car is all they care about.

I agree with this thread. But let`s face it, how can you expect people to care about cars when most people don`t even care about themselves?
I agree
