My wife is my Quality Assurance Specialist...

When I`m doing a full detail, sometimes it can be overwhelming if the car is really trashed..... especially if I`m working under time constraints!

So she does my QA/QC check. I will occasionally overlook a minor detail that she immediately sees. You know... "2 sets of eyes...."

The one item I sometimes overlook would be:ut::w00t:ut::w00t: But it never gets past her!!!

When she is available, mine performs the same function. I particularly appreciate her help with spotting glass issues. On her personal car, she also always critiques the job I do on the twin chrome tailpipes. I skip them almost everytime just to get a rise out of her.

And then when you`re done and show her your labor of love, she just says, "It looks fine. Are you done yet?":cursing:

Agreed..... plus the fact that women see things differently than men.

I had a lady once who brought me a trashed Mazda 3. I worked on her car for 8 hours bringing it back to life. It looked beautiful.

When she arrived to pick it up, she got in the car, and immediately looked for a lipstick smudge that was on the visor. I had missed it. Never saw her again. My bad.

That`s funny. I guess she was testing you.

Unfortunately my wife uses the opportunity to go shopping or run errands on the weekends when I`m working. I`m lucky in that I`ve never been hassled about it taking so long - some weekends 2 full days.

My QA/QC is to ask the cutomer to please find anything they would like addressed at pickup OR call me anytime if they see something I`ve missed after they leave. I`ll go to them if they call.

Sometimes a neighbor will come over and I`ll ask them to give it a good visual once over. They`ll sometimes see something.

I read in a recent post somewhere that the detailer sits in the driver`s seat to get the customer`s perspective and looks at everything on the interior when done with the inside. Good idea.

Good post though and I agree it`s good to get a second set of eyes on your work. I, like others have said before, kind of get into a "zone" when I`m working.

And when you`re in the zone, it`s easy to miss a tiny little something that someone else might catch! My wife actually goes around with a Microfiber and a bottle of APC on the interior, just in case I missed something! She`s a KEEPER.

I get really ticked if a customer shows me something I missed, not so much ticked but a tad bit embarresed.

I write myself a note to never forget to clean the rearview mirror, and always wipe down the glass one more time after everything is done.

I also sometimes forget to back the car up a few feet to dress the rest of the tire.

Yeah, when my wife isn`t around to inspect... I will take some time (sometimes 30-40 minutes) to go over the entire car for the little things.

Its always good to have a fresh pair of eyes that havent been looking at the same car for nine or ten hours.

Sometimes I will call my Dad over to hang out for a little bit and inspect.

Not a printed checklist as such. That`s why I have my wife!!!!

But many detailers do have checklists. I, personally, think it`s a great idea. I`ve considered doing this several times, just never did it.

    My checklist would include...

    1. Visor mirrors/rearview mirror
    2. Headliner
    3. Trunk jambs, struts
    4. Hood jambs, struts
    5. Under-hood felt pad

These are some of the details that make us detailers!!!
