    Rust spots on hood.

Had a lady ask me today if I could take a look at some rust spots on her hood.
It appears to where nicks and pings from small rocks hit ,but the problem is,she has waited so long they are starting to rust. She ask me what I thought.I told her let me get back to you.I have to check with my sources

I know I can get touch up paint ,but amd worried it will not stick to the rust area.
    What ya`ll think?
    Thanks.

If you have pictures, that would be helpful.

I have repaired a couple rusted rock chips that were pea-sized. My first step was to sand as best I could with 600 grit. Then I used a touch-up primer, followed by touch-up paint in body color. I built up layers of the paint until it was above the paint surface level. Wet-sanded the entire area to level the chipped area, then polish.

It worked well for me, but it was on a white car, which, IMO, is the easiest color to match.

I have a sanding pen (I believe I got it at an autobody supply store). It is very thin, and you can place the pen in the chip, then spin back and forth between your finger tips to sand out the rust. Clean well with alcohol, then apply a primer to the metal and let it flash before applying paint.

Make sure to clean ALL of the rust out! I will see if I can find somewhere that has these pens and PM you a link.
