Let me ask my fellow Autopians about vehicle manufacturer advertising:
When was the last time a TV commercial about a vehicle made you WANT to go out and actually BUY that particular vehicle?? (OK, excluding the `64-1/2 Mustang when it first came out. Black-and-white TVs with a fuzzy picture hardly could do it justice and I was only 9 years old, so I could not buy one if I wanted to!!)
Most of my car purchases came from the result of test drives of a vehicle, not advertising.

Back when the 1998 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 commercial when the trans am is coming through the ally way and then when the stoplight turns green you hear the trans am burp after eating the exotic sports car. I could not afford the car then but if I could that would be the one. But like you said test drives what makes or breaks a deal sometimes. As we all know they can make a pinto seemed like a worthy buy buy when you test drive you see the true colors.
I agree the Blazer looks bland to me. Not ugly just nothing special at all.
They make high quality vehicles IMO.
One area I think they are doing very well is performance. Tesla is AWD electric vs. gas RWD.. apples to bananas. Instant torque is a beautiful thing. Plus the mid engine vette that is releasing soon is going to be sick. GM reached the end of the road to what a front engine platform can do. The new ZL1 1LE is a hell of a machine. A C6Zo6 would be wary if it came across one.
Having a traverse, Equinox, Blazer.. and Tahoe? Yeah that`s a little crazy
