Inhaled its nasty stuff but you have to inhale alot....its worriesome for people working with natural stones and concrete. But like everything else in life it wont kill you until 10-20 years down the line...... I am very careful with cancoat for this reason and always wear a respirator.

I believe its safe it ingested but terriable if inhaled (how it gets stuck in your lungs and causes micro scarring of the tissue)

Is this worth being nervous about, for those who use the many SiO2 sprays regularly?

It probably not am issue for car guys however for pple who work with man made stone (not so much natural stone) a persistent exposure to high content of silicon eg daily cutting of slabs or grinding will lead to silicosis. The key here is man made stine that has very large proportion of silicone.

I don’t think it’s an issue. Most of what you smell is the carrier agent. Most of the SIO2 sprays have a low SIO2 content to begin with. I would be more worried about absorbing the chemicals through the skin over inhaling.

True but silica ingested is harmless its not toxic, the issues is the physical make up the molecule which tears up your lungs and cannot be expelled (silicosis as mentioned above). I will say granite has pretty high concentrations of silica so its not just man made. I would just be careful to not inhale, its not the solvent smell (toxicity) its the actual particals of the silica.

Probably to add, the cowboys here down under (Australia) dry cut the man made and natural stone with little or no breathing protection. At least in the usa you have to wet cut stone.
