This week I came soooooo close to getting locked out of a car this week. Have you ever been locked out and if so what did you do ? Last time I was locked out of a car it was the good old days of using a coat hanger to get back in.

Yes, it’s been a while. The easiest way of getting in, is using one of the wedges, inflatable bladders, and the big bendable rod with L-shaped hook with gripper type kits.
It has happened way in the past. AAA or slim jim/coat hanger. Most newer vehicles prevent that from happening. On the Xterra, if the keys are in the iginition/running the doors will not lock you out. On the new intelligent key systems (Amazing to me) I was told by a friend, even if the fob is inside the vehicle, you can not lock yourself out. I am currently renting a Rogue with that system. So weird no having a key to start up. Mostly all push button start now. But there is a hidden key inside the fob if you need it.

Last time I locked myself out I was on Base at wright Patterson Air Force base. Called the MP`s they had the car unlocked before I even had the waver form signed. That fast almost makes you wonder what they do in their off time. Just kidding of course.
Never happened yet (knocks on wood) but I`ve made it a habit to hit the unlock button on my way out and to always have the keys in my pocket. Sometimes customers say "I`ll leave the key here or inside" and the first thing I do is put them into my pocket. I used to work at a body shop and the policy was to roll the windows down. Just don`t forget to put them up before washing the car

I have a hook in my garage that the keys go on. Get into that habit. If i have to roll the windows down a bit Ill grab the keys, put windows down a bit and immediately put the keys back on the hook. If the car is getting interior only one window goes down right away as soon as I pull in the garage. Usually a rear window.

Yup got locked out back in the day before the proximity keys were a thing (or well before I had a car with proximity keys). Had to call CAA (at the time I was living in Toronto) and it was in the middle of the winter and freezing cold! CAA took like 2 hours to get to me. Not a fun experience and my girlfriend at the time was with me and she was soooo pissed off about having to wait out in the cold lol
Did it once when I worked at a dealership so was easy getting in but have made it a habit since then to have a spot to put keys at when ever I’m not moving the car

I used to carry a wire in my wallet just in case. My pick-up had a back window that could be opened if needed. Now with FOBS it`s harder.
