    Wax over coating

No this is not the same question! As I sit here with nothing else to do, I was wondering if anyone waxes over a coating just because? Although we do about %95 coatings I still really enjoy just waxing a car! I like not having to worry about high spots or streaks and it does relax me!
Any thoughts? And yes I know all the effects and water behavior effects, just curious.

    Re: Wax over coating

i still like the look of waxes and still wax over sealants and coatings, but the older i get, i do find myself routinely using spray waxes after washes.

Yep - at least on my coated cars. I am a strong believer in sacrificial layers. So, I guess, no just because. That typed, only spray wax or rinseless with wax. I am not Ron, after all.

Brings up a side question on this same topic. If Optimum car wax aka OCW migrated into the clear coat with its UV patented formula will it migrate past a coating into the clear as well. If so then how could it not be beneficial ?

    Re: Wax over coating

On our coated personal cars, anytime I wanna wax I`ll grab the Kami Infinity Wax; it lends a very subtle look I like. It is fun to do once or twice a season and being of the same collection as the coatings, I`m guessing it`s not hurting anything.

Adding the wax improves water beading and sheeting and looks better than just the plain coating imo

    Re: Wax over coating

I don`t. One of the things that pushed me to coatings was the one-and-done nature of the protection coatings offer and all I have to do is keep them clean.

HOWEVER... I still dream of a time when time and finances will allow me to keep a dark colored coupe in my garage which I will lovingly wax with a quality carnauba until it glows like it`s radioactive.

    Re: Wax over coating

I use Opti Spray Wax after every wash and use 845 about once every couple months. My truck was coated by Brendt about a year ago. Maybe some of it is out of habit, but also I guess I do it just to work on the truck and keep busy in the garage. I haven`t seen any harm come from it and I think, at least in my eyes, the truck looks better after a little wax. Just one of the few pleasures left for this old guy.

    Re: Wax over coating

I got rid of all my paste waxes a few years ago. TBH I was always a liquid wax guy for some reason. Now with spray waxes and coating detailers I don’t even use liquid waxes anymore. But yes I do use stuff like Opti Car Wax on my coated truck that has Opti Caot on it.

I would if I had a smaller vehicle. full size pickups are just too much work to be rubbing the paint with no garage

    Re: Wax over coating

I don`t wax over a coated car as much (just use the manufacturer top-up products), but I have in the past.
Mainly just because I love waxing so much. Not even for the end result, just the procedure itself. So a couple cars I have I refuse to coat, as I love waxing them too much. Lol

Me too, old school I guess, but it just relaxes me. I still believe that there is no better protection and in some cases depending on the coating, better looks.
