    Extreme Clear Failure

This is on the Wife`s Toyota. I have seen this happen before many times and it usually involves Toyota. Many vehicles have clear failure but this just seperates off the base and peels. In it`s defense it is an 05 and spent it`s whole life outside in Arizona. Still depressing tho.

Yeah, it is starting along the tops of the doors and I see hints of it on the hood. Shame I do not have the house with the 24x30 garage anymore as I could repaint the affected panels. I would just have to figure out what to use as the EPA has pretty much destroyed any paint with longevity.

That Arizona sun is rough! It`s rare to see one like that around here. Could you tell when it first started deteriorating?

Started the cloudy look about a year ago in places but a buffing with polishing compound would help make it better. I would reapply wax and sometimes Optimum car wax with all the UV inhibitors trying to slow/stop the deteriation. The kicker was about 3 weeks ago it all blistered at the same time and over night. Now the blistering is happening more often. There was no sign of this blistering yesterday but was there this morning. Those pictures are on the front but the blistering is engulfing the complete roof and the tops of the doors.

It almost appears that the clear is delaminating from the base coat.

Exactly. The strange thing is that I have noticed this on several Toyota`s around here. One case was on a Carolla the whole roof looked like 100`s of water beads on the roof 2" tall. The wife`s Van was bought new in 05 from the dealer so I know the history of the vehicle at least.

    Re: Extreme Clear Failure

Yep. Most Toyota`s here in Southern California also have clear coat failure too. My Cobalt cc failed on the passenger side a while back from a bad repaint job. Chevy was going to cover it until they measured the mil thickness and discovered it was not factory paint. I didn`t know either since my wife bought it used before we got together. The factory clear on the roof and front bumper just started to go just a few weeks ago. It sure does go fast. I`m just going to leave it for now and drive it for as long as possible. I would definitely email Toyota if I were you and see if they will re-paint for free and then layer on a coating.

    Re: Extreme Clear Failure

I am sure Toyota would tell me where to go on a 11 year old vehicle. They will not fix the door pocket that has the plastic arm that holds the door open. That pocket is a well known problem of failing spot welds on Sienna`s. Needless to say I have been less than impressed with Toyota but that is between them and me.
