Anyone Use a Sealant to Treat Glass Shower Doors?

Apparently my old account got ixnayed so I`m back under a new name. LoL

We bought a new house with a brand new shower door. Water is super hard here in Central Texxas. Was thinking about maybe applying some sort of sealant to keep the buildup at bay. Even with regular cleanings the house we live in glass looks like anus.

What would you guys recommend? I see Rain-X has something specifically made for that purpose but I was thinking more along the lines of some Opti-Seal or the like.

Anyone tried it with good luck?

    Thanks!

Congrats on getting a new house !
If its a glass shower surround, how about something made for glass like this - Optimum Opti-Glass Coating
I have never tried a paint sealant on glass - never had the need to, but perhaps someone else has and can share their experience..
    Good Luck -

I`d use a Pinnacle Glass Coat Sealant. Best bang for the buck. It`s cheap enough to be used around the house and yet far more effective than a rain-x

Does the hardness of the water effect how often I`d need to reapply? Would I need to do any kind of removal of the old coat before a fresh coat or just clean and reapply?

I`ve never used the stuff. Looks good though!

    Thanks!

I used Duragloss 601 / 105. Worked great. I use it on the bathroom mirrors also.

Opti-Glass is overkill, formulated to deal with wiper abrasion. I use Opti-Seal on my shower and jacuzzi with great results - protects against scum build up and cleans easily.

Re: Anyone Use a Sealant to Treat Glass Shower Doors?

I used some old Meguiars paste wax I had laying around one time. Worked pretty good for the first week or two. The problem I ran into is that it seems the soap and water gunk sort of built up on the wax and then when I tried to clean the shower door it was like a trying to clean wet glue or something. So IME stay away from carnubas.

In hindsight I should have known that before I even started but I was on a waxing binge.

That is a good question! I only used it through rain, however, it lasts 2-3 months in Seattle weather where it rains a lot, though it hasn`t been lately. I`d do a IPA wipe off on that shower door and apply the Pinnacle Glass Coat Sealant whenever I`m cleaning the bathroom since it`s just so easy. IPA wipe-off, put 3-4 drops (That`s all I usually need for the whole windshield) of the sealant on a foam applicator, wipe it on the glass, wipe it off after 15 minutes. They`re some of the cheapest product I have here You can then get their windshield booster and make your own glass cleaner with it. It has a sealant booster included the booster. It has a nice glass sealant system and comes at a great price for the whole system!!

Why do you think its overkill ???

If a couple of people take a couple showers every day, and after each shower squeegee down the glass, and there is a lot of glass, isn`t that almost like wiper abrasion??

Wouldn`t Opti-Glass last alot longer than Opti-Seal ?? I am sure it would, so there you have less maintenance, and hopefully the Opti-Glass will go a lot longer, right ???

You use the Opti-Seal on shower walls or doors? Opti-Seal was my first instinct too. lol
