As far as application, go ahead and go with the CarPro method. Get a pair of the foam applicator blocks, then get the 10 pack of the 16x16 (40cmx40cm) suede applicator cloths. You can cut each cloth into SIXTEEN 4" squares! The 10 pack is still $19.99 (I think). Where if you get the pre-cut 4" cloths they are $12.99 for TEN. That makes them $1.29 each. That`s ONE DOLLAR AND TWENTY NINE CENTS PER CLOTH. WOW!

Where if you cut the 16" cloths you`ll get 160, for $19.99 which is like 12.5¢ each. Now THAT is easy.

The reason I recommend using the suede cloth applicator is you tend to use MUCH less product, and get that product applied much more evenly. Where if you use a round foam applicator you`ll not get it as even. Then there`s the Lake Country wedge applicator, which is capable of a more even application, but the applicator itself is pretty darned thirsty. (All foam applicators are thirsty in that respect.) As the foam gets more loaded, then your application gets more loaded the farther you go. Where if you`re using the suede cloth you`ll get the same application on the last 2 sq feet that you got on the first one. Also... you`ll want to flip, maybe even rotate the cloth after say doing the hood. Use it for the fenders afterwards, maybe the front bumper after that. Then get a new cloth and do the roof, doors, etc. I`ll tend to use from 2~3 depending on how large the vehicle is.

Once you`ve used them on the paint, you can use them on your fingertip for tight areas around the mirrors, around the cowling, trim, etc.

I would suggest also if you`re doing your glass with a coating that you use a separate one for that. But at 12.5¢ each, you can use TEN for less than the cost of one pre-cut cloth.
I did exactly this with the Uber Coating and it worked very well.

    Yup!

    Works first time... every time.

Think CQuartz had it down right all those years ago perhaps.

    One thing I`m forgetting.
Is temperature and humidity a concern when applying a coating . Is it better to wait for cool weather.

My experience has been it will take a bit longer for the coating to "flash" with higher humidity and temps.

A lower humidity level is best. YMMV however...

Optimum Gloss Coat, Is 10cc enough to do a Grand Marquis?
Or do you need 20cc for larger vehicles?

    Re: Coating or Not?

Sounds iffy to me. Of course I`ve not used that one..... but I can have a bit left over from 30cc on a sedan.

It`d cover the top(s) and front fenders... maybe. I`d surely use the suede applicators (aka CarPro method) though just to get the most costing applied evenly on the surface, rather than in the sponge (like with other application methods).

10cc`s should be enough. I did a 2010 Camaro and I had a little left over after applying two coats on just the paint. I used the suede applicator method.

    Here`s a good article

Here`s a good video on application. Listen to Yvan where he states the applicator doesn`t absorb a lot of product. I`m going to try the foam applicator the next time I use gloss coat.

ShawnF350- A Ford Panther platform car is awfully big...if you`re coating it thoroughly it might take a lot of product. Seems like LSPing the Crown Vic is at least as big a job as the Tahoe.

what year is your GM again?

    Re: Coating or Not?

I know some people say they get 3+ cars out of one tube of gloss coat. I don`t believe it`s possible but then again I`ve only used it one time.

    2010 GM
Maybe I`ll do the smallest realistate vehicle I own then.
A 2010 Ford Edge. Mostly glass for the roof. That may give me an idea of how far a coating will go for me.

If I don`t do something soon, everything is gonna just get 2 coats of FK.
