    #1 yellow vs #1 white/ivory carnauba

Would like to know the differences and which would be the better grade?

No chemist here, but here`s a link to some people who know quite a bite about fine carnauba:

    Good link, Boss!

I`m no chemist either, but that was my understanding of the differences.

    Thanks,

So the ivory is the more pure of the two? I guess that makes it a better grade too? I have never really thought about it that much. This was a good thread and I have learned something today.

Ivory is more refined than yellow. Basically more of the impurities are removed from the Ivory Carnauba.

There was a post on another board about this exact subject. Rather than asking an appearance chemical manufacturer (who is admittedly biased, even me), look for info from the people who import the raw carnauba from Brazil and sell it to the wax manufacturers.

I didn`t see any reference to ivory carnauba in any of these sites.

    forest,

Good point! I don`t think one can necessarily assume that white/ivory carnauba is better than yellow caranuba. As a matter of fact, my understanding from one manufacturer is that yellow caranuaba is "bleeched" to make it white carnauba and clean out the impurities. I`m not sure if that`s true, or not, that`s just what I was told.

    Boss,

Perhaps by "bleeched" they are referrring to the second "refining" step that Pinnacle claims? If that is the case, I would think that it would be "purer" than yellow - but what do I know - I grew up on Turtle Wax!?!!

    Norah,

Yea, I would guess that the "bleeching" step is the "refining" step, if indeed that is what it used? Again, it was only something I was told by another manufacturer............... and one that "doesn`t" sell ivory carnauba. The point is................ grade 1 ivory (refined) carnauba may, or may not be better than grade 1 yellow carnabua.

So is Ivory the better grade then? Kind of sounds like it to me from the statement below from pinnacle:

"We start with #1 Grade Yellow Carnauba, then refine it a second time. This changes the wax`s pale yellow color to ivory as the last remaining impurities are removed. The result is Ivory Carnauba, a super-pure wax with unsurpassed clarity. We use only Ivory Carnauba as a foundation for all our waxes."

A lot of people think that Trade Secret is the best carnauba. It is "greenish" in color. Maybe "green" carnauba is the best? :dunno

Is the green carnauba a merging of yellow and blue carnauba? Yellow and blue make green! - An old Ziploc commercial.

Actually, the color of the actually product itself can easily be altered by colored dyes, so don`t use that as any measurement.
