What did I do wrong with Edge pad?

So I`m using the Edge green pad and SSR2.5 on my dad`s red Miata. This was my first time using the pc, so what I did was; spread the product at a speed of about 4, then turn it up to about 5.5~6 till it got dusty. I got about 3/4 of the car done, and BOOM! The pad exploded practically in my face. Now I`m nervous to crank the speed up that high.

5.5 - 6 is heavy for a PC isn`t it? I thought most PC work was 4.5 - 5 for compounding / polishing. Even so the pad shouldn`t die in the arse. Was it damaged or torn that you noticed before you started work?

ive done the same thing & ive discussed it with people in the know & they all seem to say running a pc that fast isnt really necessary .. i dont go past 4.5 anymore .. if something needs more work than that i break out the rotary & clean up the swirls with the pc

That sounds dangerous, hope I don`t have that issue in the future....what part of the pad broke? The glue between the foam?

Wow ..hope you didn`t do any damage I used the yellow CMA pad with SSR2.5 yesterday, spread it at 2 and then cranked it to 5-5.5 , with a few seconds here and there at 6, where there were deep scratches, and had no problems. I know awd330 has used the green edge pad with SSR2.5 at 5-5.5 also with no problems, and she thinks it`s a favorite combo. So I`m guessing it was either the old style pad or just a fluke:dunno Talk to Aaron he should be able to help you

Yes, I`ve used the green Edge DA Durafoam pad with SSR2.5 several times with very good results. I think the pad`s texture is a perfect match for the SSR2.5. They are both abrasive enough to tackle the tougher problems but gentle enough to not create any additional micromarring.

The original Edge green DA foam was more fragile, and I was only able to get about 3 uses out of it before there were significant signs of wear and tear. The revised design with the Durafoam material is much more durable.

As others have suggested, you should give Aaron Krause at Dedication to Detail a call and discuss the specifics of your process.

I talked to Aaron, and he figured it was one of the old style pads. I`m gonna send it back so he can check it out.

Here you can see the pad separated from the velcro part and also split up.

WOW! That`s the first time I`ve seen a pad do that!

I always run my DeWalt DA at max speed when polishing, etc. w/ CMA`s pads and have never had a pad explode like that. See something new everyday.
