    Review: Optimum Gloss Coat

Okay, so I am sure, like myself, lots of people were curious about Optimums new coating, Gloss Coat. I’ve been wanting to coat my car more and more, so I figured why not try what Optimum has put out with their new replacement for Opti Coat

    Manufacturers Description:
    Semi-permanent paint protection made easy!

Optimum Gloss-Coat is a high-tech polymer system that forms an extra layer of clear coat over painted surfaces, wheels, plastic trim, bumpers, aluminum, and chrome. Formulated by award-winning Dr. David Ghodoussi, Optimum Gloss-Coat is designed to provide unsurpassed resistance to etching caused by harsh detergents, and swirl marks that are often inflicted during the wash process. Surfaces that are coated with Optimum Gloss-Coat will be protected for up to two years.

Optimum Gloss-Coat is much like the clear coat that already exists on your vehicle, except it forms a shell of protection that is glossier, slicker, and less prone to wash-induced swirl marks and marring. Optimum Gloss-Coat creates a self cleaning finish that is considerably easier to clean and maintain compared to conventional waxes and sealants. Carnauba-wax lovers rejoice – Optimum formulated Gloss-Coat so you can top it with your favorite non-abrasive finishing wax.

Optimum Gloss-Coat can be applied to all exterior surfaces. It is not recommended for glass since improper application can affect visibility. For other exterior surfaces, Optimum Gloss-Coat is a highly effective, transparent protective coating.

Optimum Gloss-Coat can be applied to:
    • Painted surfaces
    • Wheels
    • Plastic trim
    • Bumpers
    • Aluminum & chrome surfaces

Optimum Gloss-Coat is an additional barrier between the elements and your vehicle`s paint. The paint will retain its color and contaminants will be blocked out to keep the paint smooth and clean. Unlike waxes and paint sealants that require frequent reapplication, Optimum Gloss-Coat provides constant, unyielding protection for up to two years!

Okay so won’t put you all to sleep with my prep, its was your typical decon with AF Iron Out, Mothers Clay, Various APC’s brushes, pads and my Griots, etc….prpep how you desire.

    Observations:
Okay so as for the application. First, the product is thicker than OC and spreads a lot farther too. If you were worried about 10cc covering your car don’t. It will cover your car, obviously depending on its size. For my Corolla, I was able to coat all the paint, trim, all the glass, and I still had about 1-2cc left over. During application, much like OC it melts into the paint, however Gloss Coat its way easier to see where you applied. I applied it heavy in some areas, to see if buffing off would be a pain, and it was not, so if you have high spots and over apply, if you remove them in a 5 min window you should be fine. I applied OGC CarPro style, foam applicator block wrapped in suede microfibers. I chose to remove it from the its packaging and put it in a spray bottle. I did this with OC as well, I like spraying onto the applicator and paint, for me its easier….

Now, after application, it is much slicker to the touch after application than OC. To note as well, it felt even slicker today(a day after applying) then it did yesterday. I am sure it has something to do with it curing.

Okay, now to some glamour shots. Wasn`t the sunniest day today so sorry, but take a look, can you sat Gloss???

So like I said not the sunniest day today, but wow, pictures dont do it justice. Its really really glossy.

Now, to be fair, $60 for 10cc is kind of ridiculous. When you can get CQ, or 22ple,, Pinnacle, DP or Exo for cheaper, and more product, its a no brainer. I have used CQUK, OC, DP, and the application is easier than CQUK, and just as easy as DP. DP is a more glassy look, this is glossy. I can not compare this to CQUK 2014, I haven`t used that yet.

So end result, listen if it meets its claims of 2 years excellent. Will I polish it off before then, probably, but I promise in an effort for the forum, I will not top this, or do anything crazy, I’ll try and do an good test of longevity for those curious.

So, should you try it? Yes! is there other products out there that do the same thing, for cheaper and more product? Yes! Does that mean OGC sucks? NO, they should give maybe 15cc, for those with bigger cars and 4x4’s…..but they do what they do over there at Optimum.

Anyway ask any questions you have,, hope you enjoyed. I’ll leave more thorough reviews to guys like Claude and more experienced detailers….

That is a beautiful job !
Very clear and the gloss is unbelieveable !!!
I love the color - it looks so good in the shade - the sun should really be amazing !
You will love how you never have to wash the car very often because nothing sticks to it as easily anymore, and when you do wash it, its going to be so much faster and easier..

Looks awesome Chris! I do hope some one on here tops OGC soon though because I`m curious as to how a nuba would look on it. I`m still undecided on my wife`s CR-V, OGC or CQUK?........... I really do want to try this one though.

Good review. I have tried both. Now GLOSS COAT is way easier to apply than CQUARTZ UK, but I like the look of UK better. Glossier and "slicker!"

    Very nice review.

I love how everytime a new coating is introduced, the first thing some only care about is...how it looks topped with a lousy wax. Amazing...

I love how this is the first coating that promotes being able to top with wax and apparently I`m some jerk because I want to know how it would look? I guess wanting to know if it would add a glow with a nuba is a dumb question and having a vehicle coated with CQUK with no topping for quite a while counts for nothing huh?

    Great job! Looks super glossy!

Well IMO, Coatings add depth, gloss and reflectivity. Waxes on the other hand make colors pop much more so there`s pro`s an cons to each. However that all said I`m very weary of topping anything over coatings simply because nothing matches the "water explosions" when it comes into contact with paint. I tried a couple of QD`s with sealant and it made the beading worse so for me it`s strictly Reset an hydro2... half time I don`t even use soap!

Thanks! I don`t plan on topping it anytime soon, sorry. I want to test it on its own for everyone.

Thanks! Yeah it`s super glossy. I was really impressed in this area. We`llsee how long it lasts.

If you had 1-2% left after a corolla what am I suppose to use on a MDX? 2 tubes? Hey Optimum fill those syringes up. 60 bucks is plenty of $ for 20 cc

Great review! It`s cool to hear some of my impressions were verified by you. Your Corolla looks great in photos and I`m sure even better in person.

Great job. I have DP Paint/Wheel/Glass and find them very easy to use with a nice look. How would you compare just OGC to DP? Meaning stick with DP or switch to OGC, is it worth it?

    Fantastic review !!!

    Nice work too.

I do find it funny that, that now everything is compared to UK
Formerly the "Best Detailer", now just Super Wax Waster Man. Not necessarily tactful, but normally right. It`s good to be da King !!!

Agreed. Price alone will keep me from trying this product.
