Synergy on top of Black Label Paint Coating
Finally was able to purchase a pot of Synergy. Truck was coated with PBL paint coating (as well as glass and wheel) back early december 2013.
here’s the original thread:
http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/...s-updates.html
The other day I fixed some rock chips on the hood so I ended up re-polishing and recoating the entire hood and a few other small sections around the truck that I did paint repairs on. I let it sit for 18 hours before putting the synergy on.
The rest of the truck I went over with PBL surface cleansing polish and then used Synergy.
I did two coats, first coat was put on with the DoDo Juice wax applicator. The second coat I used a 4inch black wax pad and my megs da drill adapter but ended up just going back to the DoDo applicator as I found it to be overall easier to use since I was having to take off the 4inch pad and squeeze it into the pot.
Smell: I read someone else’s post about this and they said it smelled like butterscotch. I didn’t get the same smell, I smelt cotton candy and that’s what I’m sticking to because I had a friend say he smelt the same thing, even on my paint afterwards.
Application: Well this stuff is pretty thick in the can. I put a few good swipes on the DoDo applicator and went to town. I was able to cover a considerable amount of surface with just one prime, actually half the hood and the other half was completed with another prime.
When using the 4inch black waxing pad I was not able to cover as much distance and the setup of the DA adapter on an electric drill was getting pretty uncomfortable, having to keep my finger on the trigger of the drill to spin the pad.
Here is a pic of the wax curing (applied via DoDo applicator).
and then removed
Removal: On the panels that I let cure more than about 10 mins it was very easy to remove the Synergy with a gold plush mf or miracle towel. I found this product to be very easy to apply and remove.
All in all I did two coats, about 12 hours apart, and this is on top of 7 month old PBL paint coating.
So how does it look you may ask?
Now I should qualify these pics by stating they are coming from a year old camera phone, but in person, oh my gosh it looks amazing.
Here’s some pics after the first coat in the garage…
reflection of the metallic on the tailgate from inside the garage was pretty unreal
flake in the sun…
Pulled it into the sun after the second coat had sat for about half a day and took some good pics…
Water behavior?
I have some videos of beading/sheeting that I will upload soon but here’s some beads!
black and white shot looks cool…
Even looks cool under the negative and solarize options on my phone….
Impressions: The paint was left buttery smooth and very slick. One coat would have been sufficient, but I chose two. And to be honest, I think I will put another one on this weekend if i get time, just because I can. I had original thoughts on using this for my business and I still will, but I can tell you nobodys getting a discount on this stuff because I can only imagine how awesome this is going to make the metallic on my black SRT.
Application and removal were a breeze, it’s the prep thats a pain in the butt. But hey it’s worth it. For a shine like this. It looks so much better in person.
It rained on me last night coming home from work and I can tell you the hydrophobic properties of just the PBL coatings are awesome, and it just got a lot better with these two coats of synergy.
This is the most expensive paste wax I have ever used. Before that the most expensive I have is a collection of DoDo juice samples. So I don’t really have a comparison to ‘any other waxes but I can definitely tell you that I feel this cost is justified after using this product.
I had someone ask me yesterday if I just had my truck repainted! haha. That’s one heck of a compliment if you ask me. Keep in mind this is a 2006 truck with now 108k on it. You can see it’s age by looking at the faded running boards that I just cannot get anything to work very long on.
I will post the beading test videos as soon as I figure out how to get them to work on here.
Thanks for reading.
