    Review: Dodo Juice Red Mist

Review: Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical Protection Detailer

    Introduction:

I`ve mentioned before that I am a quick detailer junkie. While I may not have every QD on the Autopia Car Care site, I have a goodly share. I`ve also mentioned that I don`t use them exactly as straight-up QDs (wiping away dust and the like) but more as drying aids and to add that post-wash pop. I tend to rotate through my collection seeing how they react on different LSPs (this is on my car - customers aren`t subject to such vagaries). This week, the topper was BF Wet Diamond Spray Wax and the random QD was Dodo Juice Red Mist.

Thanks to Corey again for providing the format.

    Product:

    Product Claims:

From Autopia Car Care site -

"A high shine detail spray that can stand alone!
Combination of quick detailer and spray sealant for a clean, slick, and protected shine!
Designed to work well in all climate conditions!
Can be used as a stand alone paint sealant.

Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical Protection Detailer is a quick detailer with the blueprint of a paint sealant. It shines and fortifies existing wax, but it`s equally useful as a stand-alone paint protectant. Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical Protection Detailer boasts more protection, durability, and shine than a typical detail spray, and it`s quicker to apply than a paint sealant."

Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical Protectant

    Details:

1.- Packaging: Plastic Bottle with Sprayer
    2.- Directions: Clearly labeled
3.- Viscosity: Slightly thicker than water
    4.- Color: Translucent orange
    5.- Scent: Mango?
    6.- Price at time of review: 250ml = $ 16.99
    7.- Manufacturer: Dodo Juice
    9.- Made in: England

    Other Products Used:

    2 16x16 MFs

    Preparation:

Thoroughly washed the car with CG Honeydew Snow Foam and (rather thoroughly) dried it with the 8hp MetroVac Master Blaster. The BF Wet Diamond Spray Wax was applied only last week.

    Application:

Apply very sparingly to surface or MF and spread. (Side note - I have recently noticed that if I apply products in an orthogonal straight-line pattern it looks better than if I apply in just straight lines. Or maybe I`ve just been applying too many chemicals to my paint.) Lightly buff off any excess.

    Observations:

Very nice, light smell. Cleans better than I was expecting. I had read that its strong suit was in the added protection and not in cleaning ability. While that may be true, it still lifted an impressive amount from a just washed car. Excellent slipperiness.

I mentioned to apply sparingly. That is really fitting, especially after my BF WD Spray Wax Initial Impression. Same thing here - however lightly you think you are applying, use less. I did 3 spray over the entire hood and that was way, way too much. A few drops seem to cover a door. It goes on oily so you can easily see where you have been. I definitely recommend applying to the MF and spreading. Because you use so little, the product becomes rather cost effective. I had held off buying because the "value" didn`t seem to be there but, when you consider I probably could have done the entire Sonata in maybe 6 full sprays, the 250ml will go a long way.

On top of BF WDSS, Dodo Red Mist left an incredible finish - darkened the paint and left the crispest reflections I`ve seen yet. The two combined for a liquid, glassy look that is really special on my gray paint.

Does it meet its claims? Best I can tell.

    Pros:

1.- Cleans better than I thought
    2.- Very slippery
    3.- Rather cost effective
    4.- Pleasant smell
    5.- Huge gloss.

    ???:
1.- Durability. I don`t know and don`t care but it is Dodo`s raison d`etre for the product.

    Cons:

    1.- None I`ve found.

    Final Observations and Summary:

I`ve used Dodo Juice Red Mist in the past over sealants and like it well enough. However, on reinforcing BF WD Spray Wax, it took on a wholly new character. It went from a better than average looking QD to an awesome one. It took that already gorgeous BF look and complemented it with the darkening and a bit more gloss. Not sure whether it will do the same for other combos or whether I just stumbled across a happy synergy. Am sure that it makes me happy.

Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!

    Thanks for the review!

Have you used XMT spray wax? If so, how does it compare? XMT really has a nice look.

    Thanks Al.

Yes I have and yes it does. This particular combo is crisper and darkens the paint more.

The new XMT is significantly better than the old one, though.

I thought the new XMT was super easy to apply and was durable. I am not sure as good as OCW durability-wise but better looks.

    Hey Mike,

Great review as always and now there`s something else I "need" to try.

I have several Dodo waxes and love the way they make the finish glow so it looks like some Red Mist is in my future...

I wonder how this tastes in vanilla ice cream?

Thanks for sharing your observations with a line of products that I have not tried yet. I`m still trying to decide which BF products I will use on our two cars. Have TPnS, GEP, Crystal Seal, WD Sealant, Poly Spray and Midnight Sun Wax spray.

I too like the new XMT and agree with how easy it is to apply. I`d bought the old one a while back and wasn`t super impressed. The new one is a great improvement.

    Thanks Jim.

Don`t drive yourself crazy - they are all great products. If the paint has light swirls or oxidation, use TPnS and top with Crystal Seal (Rapid Fire). If almost perfect, go GEP and WDAPP. Maintain with Poly Spray after washes. Then, when you really want to impress, top with Midnight Sun Spray Wax. However you go, call your insurance company `cuz you`ll be leaving a trail of WHIPLASH in your wake.
