Review: Dodo Juice Basics of Bling Detail Spray

Review: Dodo Juice Basics of Bling Detail Spray

    Introduction:

I`ve mentioned in a previous review I seem to collect QDs. I bought DJ BoB when it was introduced just because. I believe it was my first Dodo Juice product. Now, I even have the Dodo Juice Bottle Opener/Key Ring.

Thanks to Corey again for providing the format.

    Product Claims:

From Autopia Car Care site -

"Cleans, shines, and protects in one application.
Remove light dirt, bugs, fresh tar, and bird droppings.
    Leaves a slick, water-repellent finish.

Dodo Juice Basics of Bling Detailing Spray is a multipurpose quick detailer that also functions as a waterless wash and bug and tar remover. It does it all! Just spray and wipe to remove contamination and restore a slick, glossy finish.

Dodo Juice Basics of Bling Detailing Spray`s water-based formula is compatible with waxes and paint sealants. It can be used during final buffing stages without interfering with fresh wax or sealant.

Use Dodo Juice Basics of Bling Detailing Spray on paint, glass, and metals. It leaves a protective coating that will keep future contamination from bonding with the paint. Plus, the paint will bead water like it`s freshly waxed!

Dodo Juice Basics of Bling Detailing Spray not only looks great, it has a pleasant apple scent. Use it regularly to maintain a just-waxed shine."

Dodo Juice Basics of Bling Detailing Spray 500 ml.

    Details:

1.- Packaging: Plastic Bottle with Trigger Sprayer
    2.- Directions: Clearly labeled
3.- Viscosity: About the same as water
    4.- Color: Sea Foam Green
    5.- Scent: Green apple
    6.- Price at time of review: 16.9oz = $ 12.99
    7.- Manufacturer: Dodo Juice
9.- Made in: England? (not on the label)

    Product

    Other Products Used:

    MF

    Preparation:

I pretty much only only use QDs a drying aid or follow-up wash to eliminate waterspotting left over from the MetroVac after a maintenance wash - adding the final pop. So, wash the car first.

    Application:

Spray a small amount directly onto the paint and lightly spread with a short nap MF. Follow with a light buffing with the flipside of the MF or a dry MF.

    Observations:

Great smell. It flashes quickly and leaves a glossy, wet-looking finish. No streaking. I really like the trigger - now that I figured out how to work it.

Does it meet its claims: yes, except not sure the extent of the added protection.

    Comparisons:

Comparing with Dodo Juice`s Red Mist Tropical Edition, I think the protection left by Red Mist is far more durable than DJ BoB. While DJ BoB has a glossy, wet-looking finish, DJ RMTE has more the candy-look. I read in a review of DJ RMTE elsewhere that QDs are an optimized trade-off between durability, cleaning ability, lubricity and gloss (I`m sure the previous sentence does not pertain to the newly-reformulated BF series. ) Here I believe they traded protection for cleaning ability. Both are really good products.

Optimum Instant Detailer and Gloss Enhancer has a similar look (slightly less wet looking) but is more prone to streaking. Way less expensive, though.

Einmann Fabrik Clear Pearl II (sadly on semi-permanent hiatus) also had a similar (maybe a touch closer to the candy-side) look but also slightly less wet-looking.

The 2 Chemical Guys QDs I use most frequently (P40 and Synthetic QD) are both definitely on the candy-side of the spectrum and are somewhat less expensive.

OTC QDs like Megs ID (red) and Mothers leave an oilier look to them (to my eye) but are very cost effective.

Probably the product it reminds me of most is PoorBoy`s World Spray & Wipe Waterless Wash - which I use in a similar manner.

    Pros:

1.- Leaves the glossiest, wettest-looking finish of any QD I`ve used
2.- Reasonably cost effective - for an imported, boutique QD
    3.- Awesome smell
    4.- Some decent cleaning ability.

    ????:

    1. Durability. Don`t expect much from a QD.

    Cons:

    1.- None.

    Final Observations and Summary:

I like DJ BoB. Due to price, I don`t use it a lot - even on my own cars. But when I`m in the mood to "pimp my ride to the max" (where do young people come up with stuff like that?), this is what I reach for.

Comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for viewing!

Thanks yet again for the review. I think we need an index,

There are so many products from DoDo I think I need a simple condensed primer since they seem to have some many variations of the same concept.

Nice review. I really rate OID, so a QD that streaks less and looks better than that definitely interests me.

I always had problems with QD+. It was one of the few PB products that I never really cared for. I always got streaks with it.

I do have quite a collection of QDs. There are a some I still haven`t tried, like FK 425 and PB QD+. I sure they will join the legion at some point.

Yet another informative review. Thanks for taking the time.

If I can ask, what is your favorite QD? I personally like FK425 but am open to other options.

Depends on the look I`m going for. On lighter colors, I like the candy look so use the CGs, DJ RMTE and Sonus Acrylic Spritz. On darker colors, i prefer the deep, wet look so DJ BoB, EF and Opti IDGE. My middle toned gray DD, I flip back and forth.

I studied composition when I was doing a lot of photography and, there, having a clear mental picture before you snapped the shutter always yielded the best photos. I try to carry it over into detailing. Note - The last photo in my Prima Hydro review is the `picture` I`ve wanted to achieve on my DD.

Part of the reason I try so many different product is so I can have a palette to choose from as I do the variety of cars I work on to match the appropriate `picture.`

I think the point is that there is not always ONE product for every paint. It is nice to have several and use them.
