    Latest Acquisition: Meguiar`s M101

Since I`m not sure whether the source through which I obtained this wants to be named, he will remain nameless for now.

I recently managed to get my hands on a gallon jug of the Europe and Asia market only M101 Foam Cut Compound, and thought I`d share a few pics of the product labels/instructions for those who are interested:

    MSDS: http://www.meguiars.com/content/en/msds/M101.pdf

I still have yet to get the chance to try this stuff out myself, but some of it is on its way to a warmer climate where it will be getting a good workout, and I will be giving it a try as well hopefully in the near future -- I will update this thread with information and a review as soon as possible.

Some of you may be aware that I was attempting to arrange a group buy of M101 through a vendor in Italy. After contacting them to get a quote I determined that it won`t be viable; when all is said and done it would end up costing as much or more than it would for individuals to buy directly from the vendor. In the interest of avoiding breaking forum rules I won`t post a link to the vendor`s site, but if anyone is interested I will provide a link via PM or email. (NOTE: The batch I have in my hands now did not come from this vendor.)

Anyone else have any experience with this stuff? From what I`m told it`s the true Holy Grail of Meguiar`s compounds -- cuts more than M105 and finishes down better as well. My initial impression is that it`s a very thick creamy formulation that feels a bit gritty like an old school compound, so I`m kind of intrigued. Can`t wait to unlock its mystical secrets!

I am very interested to hear your thoughts on this Charlie. Have heard some great claims and results from this stuff but have also heard that at this point meguires isn`t planning on selling it here in the states as of now.

I a looking forward to your testing and results.

Interesting.....I wonder if it is a step above the older 3m perfect-it II. I`ve noticed a difference in the more recent years. Sounds like a more agressive PO-83.
One day I`ll get to do my own car.

Congrats on the find Charlie! Let us know your thoughts on it. Too bad about the group buy, I would have been in for some in a heartbeat. I just split a gallon of old school 105 v1 with a friend, and was wondering how different they really are.

Charlie, I just want to say thank you for hooking me up. I have a large wet sanding job this week that this, Im sure, will come in handy with.

Im sure you all expect some video so I will be sure to make that happen.

Charlie says that my package should arrive Wednesday. Thats actually perfect. I will need it on Thursday.

I also still have some of the original M105 that I will also be comparing it to. It should be interesting to see all 3, M105v1, M105 d/a version, and M101, side by side.

Why is this not sold here? some ingredients not approved here? overlap of other products?

    anybody got a reason?

This reminds me of growing up in the late 60`s in Philadelphia and my friends smuggling back a beer named COORS from Denver....LOL

I`ve heard similar things, Troy; I`m hoping to get some testing done later this week but I`m willing to bet Garry Dean will beat me to it.

Possibly; I never used much of the 3M stuff to be able to compare it to that; I can do a side-by-side comparison with SIP but I think it`s probably more in PG territory in terms of cut.

Thanks Mike, I never had any of the M105v1, but based on everything I`ve heard this stuff blows even that out of the water.

According to Jason Rose and Mike Stoops @ Meguiar`s (from a thread over on AGO) M101 was specifically developed, formulated, and validated for use in body shops overseas. Sounded like they tried having some shops here in the US try it, and they didn`t like it. Considering these are body shops we`re talking about, I`m guessing it`s because they don`t subscribe to the same techniques those of us on the "detailing" side of the industry tend to use.

    Re: Latest Acquisition: Meguiar`s M101

Thanks guys; I wish it wasn`t going to be so doggone cold the next few days or I`d head out to the u-pull salvage yard and pick up a couple fresh test panels; what I`ve got now aren`t well suited to trying out this product.

Guess I`ll have to see what I can come up with.

I have had the pleasure of using pre-production M101 at SEMA several years ago. I will look forward to your review and see if your opinion was as favorable as mine was.

Looking forward to you thoughts once you use this. From my understanding, overseas body shops do not use wool to often and this product adds the cut to a foam pad that traditionallly wool would. Perhaps this wouldn`t be a bodyshop`s dream here but it certainly sounds very promising for the detailing market. I would like to get my hands on some of this. From what I have heard it has an almost infinite buffing cycle which is the total opposite of 105 or 95.

Edit: I just realized this is you Charlie. I was wondering where Shiny was. Obviously I didn`t look to far into your avatar.

That is pretty much in line with what I`ve been told as well. Evidently the abrasives in this "recharge" with just a spritz of water instead of requiring more product to constantly be added.

LOL... Seems there are a few people out there who haven`t caught on yet. That`s why I put my old screen-name as my user text for the time being; after a decade as SLD I felt it was time for a change/re-brand.
