Yes, it does marr badly on some paints . For those I use blackfire clay .
For the harder paints that it does not marr its so much easier and less time consuming, thats why I love it.
Its just one of those products you must be careful with if you dont plan on polishing.

When you say marring, do you mean scuff-looking marks or added swirl-type scratches?
IME, the former is caused by lack of lube and is irritating but corrects very easily with an AIO like XMT 360.
The latter would be interesting to me. I decided to play with BF Clay Extender and my Magna Sponge. (I doubt that this application is approved by either side.) Before applying, the sponge felt smooth but, after, definite sharp contaminates (easily felt) were released.
FWIW - I have done soft black Lexus paint with no marring and also marred the crap out of soft blue Hyundai paint - both with Born Slippy. I`ve done "normal" paints with ONR (clay lube strength) and only had the former-type marring.

My first experience with slippy lube and magna sponge was not good.
I had a white BMW to detail and started out with the hood and did a little test spot. Looked good ,no marring.
Started using the sponge and the Born slippy on the hood and noticed even though I was spraying plenty of lube the sponge started to get stuck in places as if there was a suction cup under it wouldnt glide easily in places. That was just a little annoying but then when I wiped the hood as it was dry I noticed carefully inspecting in the sun it did marr the hood up pretty good and I had to polish it out! I didnt really enjoy that!
Im just glad I hadnt clayed the whole entire thing before I noticed !
Another word of caution on the magna sponge!!
This is the second time I did a test spot and later still found marring . It can sneek up on you or you may run into a re painted section where the paint is softer.
