Mini review - Sarge Knives

I was one of the lucky fathers who won a Sarge knife from Autogeek. First, let me say thanks to AG for always doing giveaways. Let me just say that I am a knife enthusiast. I have been collecting pocket knifes of all sorts since I was a youngster. I probably have somewhere in the neighborhood of 200-300 pocket knives, from the very cheap to the very expensive. Yeah, I`m a a nerd about more than just detailing. Next, a few quick thoughts about the knife...

I got it in the mail yesterday afternoon (2 day shipping on a completely free item ) and proceeded to open that badboy up. Initially, I was impressed with the feel and build of the knife. It looks heavy duty, but it is actually pretty lightweight feeling to the hand and pocket. I then tested out the sharpness of the blade. I was pretty impressed by how honed it was out of the box, but I still felt like I could put a little more of a razor edge on it. I hit it a few times on an old Case Moon Stone (ceramic cake sharpener) and then stropped it a couple of times on my strop with some rouge. It is now sharper than my mach 3 razor blade. I will be interested in how well it can hold this edge, and I plan to carry it for a while and put it through the test.

Of course, this knife is a little unique - it will match my Flex.

JP, congratulations on the win and thanks for the review! Kudos to AG and Flex for the giveaway. I never knew you were a blade man. My collection pales in comparison, though most of mine are users.

I followed the link, but either it wasn`t mentioned or I missed the actual blade material? What about the locking mechanism?

A strop eh? You need to ditch the Mach 3s and switch over to DE or straight edge shaving. Celebrate the blade!

Mr.Clean the blade is 440 stainless and it`s a typical thimd lock blade.

vdub, I got the 440, but you lost me on the "typical thimd" lock Liner lock, "rocker" lock etc. are mechanisms I am familiar with.

It is a standard liner lock - the kind you`d see on most any clipped knife with a thumb stud for one hand opening/closing.

and yes, 440 stainless is the blade material.

My Spyderco knives are lockbacks ("rocker"), of course they don`t have thumb studs. While my Kershaw Chive has the liner locks. My Buck Trapper is a slip-joint. I think my Gerber knives are also lockbacks (rocker), but then they have the nail notched blade.
