    Has this happened to you

I recently went to use a product that has been in my LSP box for, well a while now. I go to unscrew the lid, no go...I get a better grip...no go...I grab a kitchen towel...no go...I pick up one of those thin/flat rubber grips -- you know the kind you use to open contrary jars...you guessed it...no go. I put it back in the box with a bit of disgust.

I picked it up again last night and went through a similar scenario, but I add a step...I ran the lid under the hot water tap. Same results.

This is a jar of Pinnacle Signature Series. It is not going to defeat me...

I believe that`s a one time use product. You were suppose to use it all up before replacing the lid.

Sorry to show goofy sense of humor in such a time of need. I know they were having lid problems with a batch of XMT 180 which they fixed. Maybe this one is a bad lid also.

Troy, that would be great, but I`ve never used it.(ie. the lid has never been off)

Jeremy, it`s plastic. Oven might not be a good idea, good thought though.

I would try it anyway, maybe at 100* for maybe 3 or 4 minutes. If that don`t work I`d cut that bad boy open.

Try latex or nitrile gloves. They`ll give ya better grip.

Maybe tap around the container lid with a wrench or something - it might loosen up whatever has the threads locked. Just taking a stab at it, not sure if it would work.
I still don`t believe in grit guards.

Re: Has this happened to you

I`ve noticed one of my paste waxes is difficult to open. Can`t remember which, but I think it was a Pinnacle wax. The gasket seemed too "much" for the jar, I think. But So far, whenever I tried to open it I was able too. (Haven`t tried for a while, though... Maybe I should go try. Loosen things up a bit, you know..)

If you have one of those "strap" wrenches, that might help. As long as it`s not a cheap wrench, it should work. The cheap ones seem to slip and/or break.

Re: Has this happened to you

    Update:
After jacking around with this thing for too long, I took a combination of JP`s suggestion combined with the old adage "if that don`t work you need a bigger hammer". Several sharp "whacks" of the handle of a screwdriver sent pieces of the lid flying, but I got it off. Man, that Pinnacle sure smells good.

It was purchased back when it first came out (that tells you how old this is ) to play the role of a topper over EX-P on the Wife`s Silver Reflex (metallic paint).
