Anyone ever heard of this stuff? I went to the optimum website but theres nothing there about it. Theres a thread over on autopia right now about it. 3 years or more of protection is what they claim.
Anyone here know anything about it?

It`s currently just called "X". You can read more I`m sure at optimumforums.org

Seems like it will be some great stuff. Kind of on the pricey side but your suppose to get 3 years out of one coating so it just maybe worth it.
I believe I read at one of the other detailing sites it`s applied via spray technique. I also had read at one point that to have this applied customers would have to sign a waiver or something to that effect. Again, just passing on what I read at some point. Other than that, I really haven`t heard anything about it.
I still don`t believe in grit guards.
It is still waiting on the final developments and patents I believe. Optimum makes the purchaser sign a waiver. The "X" will only be available from Optimum directly. JP, you were right it needs to be applied via a paint gun. It seems from what I`ve read you do your typical polishing and then spray this stuff on. It creates what you might call an extra coat of clear. I`m keeping an eye on this stuff. It could be a good upsellers for customers. Most of the info is available at the optimum forum.
I personally haven`t used the coating (not many have from what I`ve gathered) but if its from Optimum, it won`t be a slouch. I don`t think this is a gimmic, Dr. G from Optimum is very intelligent and is about creating products for detailers, not products to make a buck. The down side to calling it a coating is the fact of the auto dealers `coating` or 5 year wax, which has left a sour taste for many of us detailers. From what I`ve heard, this isn`t a typical wax, sealant or 5 year wax, it is truly innovative (no comparison to anything else ... )and I don`t think much can be said about it until it hits the market.

Pretty ripe thread over at Argutopia about the stuff. I imagine it`ll be the hype for a while and then go away like the last fifteen things that have came and gone. But then again, what do I know?

yep like i called it on page 5 EPIC.....
Yes it`s claimed to be "an additional clearcoat" in some odd way.
If I still had the shop, I`d look into this as I had access to a downdraft booth which would be perfect for application. It would take time taping off areas not to get covered, but who knows.
Also, the cost was a real issue.
Not a "out in the driveway" detailer to work with.

I though i read it`s very close to Zanio CS in the way it`s applied?? maybe i`m wrong??
I guess the thread got closed or shut down. I went over to get my daily dose of "I can pee farther than you can" and it wasn`t there - or at least I couldn`t find it. We needs us some drama over here at the DC.
I still don`t believe in grit guards.
