Review - CarPro Elixir Quick Detailer

I recently picked up a bottle of CarPro Elixir. For those not familiar this is based on Merlin`s Magic Elixir. For those not familiar with it I recommend searching the forum.

Elixir is a brand new product that was announced at SEMA this year. It is a quick detaler that is ready to use.

    Product description from CarPro`s site

To kick off SEMA 2018, CarPro Proudly presents a product that combines two of our favorite attributes! In fact the combination of function and beauty made possible by Elixir may leave you asking, “What sorcery is this!?” Certainly Elixir originated from humble beginnings…. The brainchild of a few of the most devout CarPro fanatics and “would be chemists” who asked “what if?” Close your eyes and imagine for a moment…. A product that offers the quick application of Ech2o with the hydrophobic energy of the industry leader in ceramic nano technology! CarPro took this idea and expanded on it to create an absolutely phenomenal quick detailer that provides a FAST layer of depth, gloss, and hydrophobic energy to a variety of surfaces!
With a nod to CQuartz Specialist Mike “Merlin” Moore, the name of this incredible product was a no-brainer! Beyond the incredible levels of gloss and its excellent hydrophobic nature, Elixir goes on easy as can be, applies in rain or shine, and lasts for weeks on end!
    Features:

    • Quick & Easy Application
    • Ready To Use - No Dilution required
    • Great hydrophobic properties
    • Works great on both coated and un-coated vehicles
    • Versatile, works well on many materials
    • Works great even in direct sun

    Directions:

    1. Shake well
    2. Spray half a panel sparingly
    3. Immediately spread even, buff in, and buff off
    4. Use a clean “final wipe” towel and check for perfection before moving to next section or panel.
From the information I have gathered, not only does Elixir contain Reload and Ech2o but it also has some Hydro2 in it. There is a version of Merlin`s Elixir that uses Hydro2.

Elixir does smell like Reload but the scent is not as strong as when mixed separately.

I used it on my brothers paint after a decon wash after I had dried off the paint with the McKee`s blower. I used two towels. One thing that is noticeable is that to me this was easier to use and felt slicker than the mixed version. It leaves a nice gloss as well as protection. From what I gathered, the protection is up to 1 month depending on the environment. Overall a real nice addition to the CarPro line. And the answer is no to be strictly for CarPro coatings. Feel free to use it with any coating.

For those wanting a ready to use quick detailer for a ceramic coating then go ahead and pick this up. I would still recommend giving this a try for those already mixing up their own Merlin`s Elixir.

Fast forward to 5:15 for the product in use.

Personal question... will you continue to use this or go back to elixir? I’ll assume with chemist mixing formula this would be better but their is a huge cost difference.

I will use up this bottle and I will see. But more than likely I will not be using either one and stick with something that does not leave protection behind as that is my personal preference.

I realize this product has a few extras blended in, but is the difference over Ech2O blended at QD ratio`s really enough to justify the price? I`m very happy with Ech2O and at 1:20, a 1L bottle will go a very long way which makes it pretty economical.

That depends on the user. Ech20 is definitely a versatile product and works well as a QD and drying aid. But it does not leave protection and people are always worried about a product having some sort of protection. We have read countless posts about others coming in asking what can I use on my ceramic coating. Some people don`t like to mix there own products so this ready to use detailer falls right into that category.

I can see this product being a hit to a customer asking what can I use to wipe down the paint after a wash, etc. Sell them a bottle of this and they are good to go.

If Ech20 is working for you then I say keep using it. I will continue to do so. But at the same time I would say to give this a shot and see what you really think about it.

What do you normally use that leaves no protection? I thought ech20 had sio2 in it. Only thing I could find like that was throttle from shine supply but was expensive.

It does but not enough to hinder the performance of the coating. Throttle is great as well. Best time is to buy it during Black Friday.

    Per CarPro

Does Ech2o have protection in it?

Ech2o does have some Sio2 (quartz) protection in it BUT its main focus is on safely cleaning and glossing a variety of surfaces.

Thanks for posting Mike, I love how they refer to it as "hydrophobic energy" in their description, good stuff! The boosted slickness you mentioned is interesting, I`ll have to wait for the next big sale to try and pick this up along with the updated Gliss formula.

As a side note I also ended up finally topping for the first time the regular CQuartz section at the 7 month mark. Beadmaker continues to impress with awesome reviving properties, the coating toppers are facing some tough inexpensive competition! But it`s good to see Elixir is not a crazy price, showing just above $15 at 500ml.

I can see where it would fit in. Honestly, if I hadn`t discovered Ech2O I might have been in a similar place as the scenario you discribe. The versitility really won me over for both a waterless wash and QD. With a well coated car, any protection would be a nice addition, but not really a requirement for me. I will give Elixr a try...right after I finish off my bottle of Ech2O...hmmm...might be a while....

Has anyone compared EliXir to Reload yet? Reload doesn’t have great durability so I’m wondering where EliXir fits in. Is it ECH2O, ECH2O Plus (Merlin’s mix), EliXir, then Reload? Or Reload then EliXir as far as durability? I won a bottle on the CarPro Forum but I’m not sure when I’ll get around to testing due to the weather.

I`m just spit-balling here, but this what I think based on the discussion so far and reading the product info.

I see Elixr being closer to a traditional QD spray like many others with a *tiny* ammount of protection in them. Ech2O is primarily a waterless wash that just happens to do well as a QD and rinseless wash too. I could have sworn it had some protective element to it too, but I trust the Guz`s thinking it does not. Reload I see as a booster similar to Cure.

If those above assumptions are correct, I see Reload being used monthly post-wash to boost a coating and Elixr being used after every wash as a drying aid (when Reload is not part of the plan) and other traditional QD duties like bird dropping removal. Ech2O is the wild card which could be use strictly as designed, or pull double duty as a QD in place of Elixr.

It does seem like the product world is being sliced thinner each time a new product comes out.

Great way to put it. Pretty much says it all.

CarPro mentions that Ech2o leaves mostly gloss enhancement. And at 1:20 it’s so diluted, how much product is really in there to leave anything behind.

I use it weekly after a wash and initial slickness is noticeable. But by the end of the week and the next wash it’s gone. Leaving the tacky feeling that a coating tends to have.

I’ll do a follow up video to show the water behavior after I wash it again and how it feels.

If I had a customer who asked for a ceramic coating, I would sell them a bottle of ready to use Elixir as part of a care package.

Also in the big picture it is a marketing ploy to attract others to buy another product. All companies do it.

Re: Review - CarPro Elixir Quick Detailer

My main question is whether Elixir (or homebrewed versions) are only for clean paint or if it`s useful as a QD for dirty paint.

I had some bird bombs today and couldn`t decide whether to use ONR QD or my homebrewed elixir. Decided to go with ONR instead, and considered following up with the elixir for the protection.
