Re: Holy Sheet hood test is DONE- RIP

I just have a fundamental issue, as I did in the start with the variance on a coating listed 3 to 5 years.

Not as serious as an issue I have with the term "giving 110%" but that`s an entirely different discussion.

I list it as a 3 year coating but haven`t sold a single CSL package since I started using Cosmic.

I never really liked CSL alone anyways. Especially after I saw how it goes to crazy town when you add EXOv2.

I`d have to pull the thread on my SRT but I am pretty sure I used essence under CSL and EXO but I`ve topped it so many times I don`t think I could really tell you anything objective on that test. I simply did that coating to protect my paint from mother nature and provide a sacrificial layer or two of ceramic.

I am definitely still offering both of these coatings as I like them but not playing around with these coating primer polishes prior to a coating. I used them with the best intentions, to add that extra pop prior to a coating but as luck would have it, it was not a match to the coating.

I`m really glad I did this test, however. I think this is proper validation for the "I told you so" part of my brain which always gets kick back from the "well show me" side.

And guess what that means... someone has an entire hood to play with...

Holy Sheet Part III - what do you want to see?

Have to say that I was really impressed with CSL alone after application...until it was released out into daily use. Even topped with C2V3 it was terrible at staying clean with respect to water spots. Strangely, about 3-4 months in it began improving and now is staying very clean with good beading. Odd stuff, this coating bizness.

Brandt - great work on keeping this test going for so long, and being honest with the results. Bummer about the Essence likely causing the premature failure.

thanks. there are only two possible explanations here

    one makes much more sense

essence failed and took the coatings with it

OR four iron washes in 13 months will kill all three of these coatings

Having the utmost respect for your detailing prowess and experience, this comes as quite a shock about coating failures due to Essence. I think many here thought Essence as the next big thing to sliced bread in coating prep polishing and shine enhancement. There is always a question of chemical-compatibility between car-care chemical manufacturers (as Accumulator says, "They do not play well together."), and unfortunately you are the guinea pig in this experiment experience. Thanks for sharing this. Makes you wonder if this might also be the case of diminished product life for those who use a wax or sealant after using Essence.

Lonnie that is very possible. thanks.

as a side note I have the mango csl hellcat coming in sunday to leave for a few days so I will decon it, check the coating and if it`s looking like how I think it is, I will be removing it and applying something else that I have in stock

So your summary is that essence is not good to use as a polish before csl/exo? Shucks, hopefully mine last`s longer. I did this with my 2 cars.

What polish do you recommend underneath csl/exo?

I used essence on my wife’s car in spring and now I’m wondering how long it will last

I always felt like putting a coating on top of a less durable product didn`t make sense (unless they are compatible chemically and mix during the curing).

Sorry to hear it didn`t work out in the end for these products on top of essence.

something without any silica or fillers in it I guess

funny thing is the side has essence underneath it and csl,exo and pbl and its still going strong but I have never used any iron removers on it

maybe using the iron remover four times over the course of a year aided in the premature failure ?

I would guess that it`s the iron remover. My wife`s essence/csl/exo is at a year how and still pretty solid. The hood is definitely showing signs wear but I did wash the hood with iron X. Maybe essence is OK.
