Review: McKee’s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer

Review: McKee’s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer
    McKee’s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer

    Description: (Taken from Autopia)

    Restore original trim without streaking!

McKee`s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer quickly brings back trim of any color to like-new condition! Unlike most trim products, McKee`s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer has an advanced polymer formula that provides long-lasting UV Protection without leaving any greasy residue behind. Due to this unique water-resistant formula, McKee`s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer does not have any issues streaking or running when it gets wet. McKee`s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer is also easy to remove from surrounding paintwork or glass without causing damage or removing wax.

One of the easiest way to refresh your vehicle`s appearance is to restore it`s factory trim. These pieces are often left unprotected and untreated, which is what allows harmful UV rays to slowly fade their original colors. With McKee`s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer you can bring back the original color of your factory trim, often times removing years of wear and making your vehicle look as good as new! While most trim products only treat the top of your trim, McKee`s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer goes deep into your trim to fully recondition and restore the original appearance of your vehicle`s trim pieces for months to come. Even if your trim is in great shape you can use McKee`s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer as preventative maintenance to keep your car looking fresh for years to come.

    Price:

    $19.99 for 8oz

    Review:

This review will be short and sweet.

Here`s the description and directions of this product:

Here are some before pictures of the vehicle`s faded, dull and grey plastic trim:

    Driver side front fender trim:

    Driver side rear fender trim:

    Passenger side rear fender trim:

Directions recommended that the McKee`s 37 Wax Remover for Plastic is used to clean the plastic trim. I didn`t understand why I had to do this because I just washed the vehicle and everything is clean. Boy I was wrong!!!

Spray the McKee`s 37 Wax Remover for Plastic on the plastic trim:

Let it dwell on the surface for 30-60 seconds:

Thoroughly scrub the plastic trim using a microfiber towel:

Here`s the reason why I was wrong - it pulled some dirt from the plastic trim even if I just finished washing the vehicle!!! Crazy!

On the other trim pieces, I decided to spray the McKee`s 37 Wax Remover for Plastic directly on the microfiber towel as shown:

Then thoroughly wipe the plastic trim:

This is the amount of dirt I picked up in cleaning just half of the 2 rear quarter panel fender liners!!! This is crazy!!!

I didn`t have any new foam applicator pads left to use for this product. I bought a foam used for seats in Michael`s and I was going to use this as tire dressing applicators (HOT TIP LOL - Save money on tire dressing applicators). So I got a small piece and used this for the McKee’s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer.

Apply some McKee’s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer on to your foam applicator pad:

Then rub the product thoroughly onto the plastic trim`s surface:

Here`s a picture of the entire driver`s front fender trim treated:

Here`s a 50/50 shot of the driver`s side rear quarter fender trim:

Here`s another 50/50 shot of the passenger side rear quarter fender trim:

As you can see, it really restores old, faded and dull plastic trim and makes them look like new!!!

I`m going to update this thread on how durable it is and how long the restorer lasts. But keep in mind, we don`t get much rain here in AZ.

    Thoughts and Observations:

This product`s consistency is very thin. It`s like water. It`s a clear liquid with the same color as motor oil.

Little goes a long way for this product. I think I over applied the product on the foam applicator pad because the trim was drenched. I tried leaving the product to dry but it didn`t dry. Buffing off the excess is required (as stated in the directions).

There wasn`t a strong smell to it. I didn`t notice anything so it was good.

It restored the plastic trim to look like new.

Cost might seem high but you use so little product that a bottle will last forever.

    Conclusion:

This product works as advertised - it restores plastic trim and makes them look like new! If this product lasts a long time as stated then we have another home run product from McKee`s 37!

As always, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed this review. Comments are appreciated.

    Great review Marc!

The McKee`s line seems to be getting a lot of good press lately. I was all set to order Gyeon Prep & Trim, but I may have to give this a try instead.

BTW ... what dressing do you have on the tires?

Thanks a lot Bob! I appreciate it.

It`s starting to become my favorite line. I used the McKee`s 37 Tire Gloss Gel - my favorite tire dressing as of the moment.

Will do. Although it might not be a real test because we don`t get much rain here.

Sun also affects longevity of dressings/coatings, I think AZ gets some of that

Nice review. I just put Mckee`s plastic trim sealant on my 15 Challenger last Sunday, it`s seen rain couple times and 1 rinse at car waah so far and is holding up great. Like Marc08EX said a little goes a long way. Sorry I didn`t get before an after pictures.

Curious how this would compare to, say....Ultima`s TTG+ (my current fave for such stuff).

We may have some of that here in AZ. ROFL!!! I`d love to share it with everyone as we have too much. Please send some rain our way hahaha!

I agree that the sun degrades it but from my experience, rain or washing it degrades it faster. Will keep this updated whether it`s dry or after washing it.

Will try to compare it to UTTG+ from my previous experience with it. I don`t think normal trim protectants will beat UTTG+ though. That stuff was very tough.

Re: Review: McKee’s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer

    UPDATE:

I washed the car this morning (first wash since application). So it`s been approximately 33 days since application. Here are some pictures:

Overall, I`m impressed with this product!! It has been baking under the hot Arizona sun with no ill effects. Also, it survived the wash. I`ve only used the Meguiar`s Ultimate Black and a sample of the Poorboy`s trim product (PB was a long time ago) and they were both gone after the first wash. This McKee’s 37 Plastic Trim Restorer held on pretty well after washing the car. Definitely a thumbs up!

PS: Please excuse the dirt from the wheel well. Didn`t have time to scrub them down.

Thanks for the update. Looks to be holding up well. Does this bead at all in the trim?

Edit: Forgot to ask how many times it`s been washed.
