Review: Mckees 37 Hydro Blue Sio2 spray on coating

So Mckees 37 has done it again with there new spray on rinse off Sio2 coating Hydro Blue. Prior to getting my hands on this I had asked Nick a few times if they were going to release a spray on rinse off type product. He assured me one was in the works.

    McKee

A short time ago this along with some other new stuff arrived at my door for honest reviews so I got to work!

As we all know Carpro Hydro2 was a break through product when released and I for one was a big fan up until last year when they changed something in the formula. They assured me it wouldn`t change anything and overall they were right but lately I had been having some issues with streaking no matter how little or much I diluted it. So getting my hands on Mckees 37 Hydro Blue was exciting since I was in the market for something different.

The test subject for this is my personal truck that lives outside. I tend to use this for a lot of testing purposes from coatings, sealants etc. Recently I polished off the coating and had been doing some testing with a new compound and sealant. And the truck hasn`t been washed prior to this for a few weeks.

For this test I skipped doing wheels and tires and decided to get straight to washing the paint. Keeping with the Mckees lineup I used some Mckees extreme foam shampoo in my normal 2bm and began washing.

After a thorough wash and rinse it was time for the fun part. The difference with this product is that it`s in a ready to use formula. Some may like it some not. I personally like the ready to use formula. Less time messing with dilution ratios. At 17.99 for 16oz I see getting a bunch of full applications! I did ask Nick about offering in gallons. He said he will if there`s enough interest. I know that I will purchase a gallon!

One to two sprays per panel and rinse it off. Simple.

    Product sprayed on

    Rinsing off.

    Done!!

Who doesn`t love beading!! And after blow drying there was no dark spots or streaking issues!

To get the remaining bit of water off I went ahead with my guzzler drying towel and some Mckees 37 high gloss detail spray and gave the truck a wipe down to finish it off.

And it just so happened to have rained out 2 days after applying Hydro Blue.

Easy to use. Great gloss. Great beading and it`s from a trusted name in the car care industry. Mckees 37 Hydro Blue will be sitting on my shelf from now on.

Great review, maybe I will try this next time instead of Gyeon Wet Coat for my at home stash. If I like it I will have to do the math on it for our work trucks, how it compares to Hydro2 1 liter concentrate price wise.

Re: Review: Mckees 37 Hydro Blue Sio2 spray on coating

I was really excited to get a sneak peek at this product yesterday when I stopped at McKee`s 37 and Autogeek to pickup a few things. I too have a love/hate relationship with Hydro2 and WetCoat, so I welcome any new competitors to the "spray and rinse sealant game". I just happened to finish diluting the last of my 1 liter bottle of Hydro2, so perfect timing.

Concentrates are great, but sometimes the simplicity of ready to use products just win. For example, sometimes I have a third of a spray bottle leftover of Hydro2 and I know I have a big day coming up. Figuring the math for filling the rest of the bottle is sometimes a pain and the cost difference for the concentrate versus the RTU version doesn`t always add up.

As soon as I got home I started to do the math. I told Nick too that if it works well, then I`d be coming back regularly for gallons.

Looks like the average consensus from this thread is 4 oz of diluted or ready to use (RTU) product of Hydro2 per car, so I used that volume for the cost per car analysis.

    READY TO USE

    CarPro Hydro2 (RTU) 1 Liter (33.814 oz) $24.99 or 74 cents per oz = $2.96 per car
    McKee`s 37 Hydro Blue (RTU) 16 oz $15.99 or 99 cents per oz = $3.96 per car
Gyeon WetCoat (RTU) 500 ml (16.9 oz) $17.99 or $1.06 per oz = $4.26 per car
Gyeon WetCoat (RTU) 4000 ml (135.26 oz) $89.99 or $.67 per oz = $2.66 per car

    CONCENTRATES

    CarPro Hydro2 500ml or 16.9 oz Concentrate $69.99
    Diluted 1:3 = 2000 ml or 67.63 oz = $1.03 per oz or $4.14 per car
    Diluted 1:5 = 3000 ml or 101.44 oz - $.69 per oz or $2.76 per car

    CarPro Hydro2 1 Liter or 33.8 oz Concentrate $119.99
    Diluted 1:3 = 4000 ml or 135.26 oz = $.89 per oz or $3.56 per car
    Diluted 1:5 = 6000 ml or 202.88 oz = $.59 per oz or $2.37 per car

Wow Ray that`s some great math there! Even though the Hydro Blue is a bit on the high side the fact it works without streaks is a big plus!

Thanks Angus! Our past Chevy Silverado and this one are the same color. My wife loves navy blue metallic paint as do I. The darker color isn`t ideal for a daily driver but it`s not meant to be a show car lol.

Good review, your truck looks really nice. The instructions say to spray on a wet surface and rinse off but no buffing after that. Was it necessary to go over it with the spray gloss or did all the water simply dry without any spots?

Looks like at that math the rubbish trucks can stick with Hydro2 concentrate in liter bottles, don`t really care about streaks on those anyways they just need protection.

It wasn`t necessary to go over with the detail spray but I always do regardless if there was any spotting or not. I didn`t get any dark streaking or water spots using hydro blue. I just wanted to make sure there was no water left on the surface and that it was clean. Just habit I suppose.
