Low budget/Low pile microfiber review

Personally, i love low pile MF towels. They are easy to control when wiping and IMO they dont absorb as much liquid, which is great for spreading around spray wax/spray sealant.


I know TheRagCompany makes the best towels but sometimes the price doesn`t fit my budget depending on what I use the towel for. Here are some quality towels for a good price!


Left we have Kirkland Signature towels ($23.75 @ Amazon 36count/$0.66 a piece)


Right we have Chemical Guys WorkHorse towels ($12.81 sale currently @ Amazon 12count/$1.07 a piece)



Heres the CG Workhorse towel 70/30 blend (which IMO is the sweet spot). I know the made in China will throw you off but I really don`t care where the towel is made as long as it has good value/quality.


I personally have been using a set of green workhorse towel (btw, they come in multiple colors! some of the less popular colors are actually more expensive) and they have been great at removing polish. They are great at picking up product and are very easy to control. With some towels when you are wiping, they tend to unravel and get sloppy. These towels actually "bite" into the chemical/product and wipe off.


My favorite use for this towel would be removing compound/polish. Occasionally, I would use it to wipe off drying aids like Meguiars D156 or FK425.






Here is the Kirkland Signature towel, 80/20 blend also made in China. I have always heard about these towels but have never tried them because Costco is about 2 hour away. I picked them up off Amazon and because of the price per towel, it doesn`t hurt to try.


For the price, it is quite excellent. Not as soft as I would like but good quality. For a true budget towel, this would be a no brainer. I would say its soft enough for paint but I don`t intend on using for that purpose. It will be an interior towel for me. BUT if you are starting off and on a very tight budget, this towel would not hurt on a paint.


This towel is also dual pile, one side short pile and other short-medium pile. I normally don`t like dual pile but the short-medium side is very close to a short that it would not bother me.

Here is a comparison between the CG WorkHorse, TRC Purple natily, Kirkland Signature. Clear difference between a GOOD high quality towel and the other two. The TRC purple towel is one of my favorite low pile high quality towels. It is supreme when removing wax/sealant/final buffing. If money (or microfibers) grew on trees, I would use it for

I love each towel for its own purpose, an interior towel and exterior towel.


One thing I did HATE about both towels are those stupid little tags. I had to rip off every single tag, which would sometimes fray the edge if the tear did not come clean.


I feel for the price of each towel it is excellent quality and good value. I have already purchased another set of Workhorse towels and will restock the Kirkland towels when they get worn down

Nice review. I also prefer short nap towels for most things. I think i only like fluffy towels for like sealant and wax removal and rinseless washing.

The Wizards from the rag co are my favorite shorter nap towels but youve inspired me to try some of those workhorse ones.

Have not tried the Wizard towel yet, the nap still looks a bit long for my liking. Plus its out of price range compared to these towels.

Honorable mention would be PBMG`s Supreme 530 towels. LOVE those towels, very thick but easy to control and the low pile side is well.. SUPREME lol

They are about half as long as the eagles. I was surprised at how much i liked them.

I think i have some of those supremes and i like them quite a bit too.

Oh boy. Kid you not, I was just telling my wife days ago that I need to get another bag of the Kirklands (when last bought at Costco, they were about 50 cents a piece)!

For "cheap" towels, I much prefer them over the Chinchilas I used a few times.

I`ve actually used the Kirklands for just about everything except final polish wipe off, and LSP wipe off. I HAVE used them to wipe off during compounding! On second thought, I may have used them for LSP wipe off during some testing.

I think I have some of these kirklands lying around the house for home use. If you guys say they`re safer enough for paint I might muster up the courage to try them. I`m going to do the cd test first though

I got the Eurow 56 pack of 350 GSM ones, tried them for spray wax application/removal with success. Tried them on a black compound/polish test spot and had zero issues.

ripping 56 tags while trying not to ruin the edges is a pain. They`re not available for sale anymore for some reason, I think they got some edge less ones (advertised as ultrasonic cut edge) for a good price now too, maybe they`re the replacement to the ones I have because I did not see them before.

Personally, I won`t be in a hurry to buy these towels, because I have a stack of the Purplenality towels, which is your favorite by which you judged the others, but they`re the only Rag Co towel I won`t buy again. I guess I`m a long nap guy.

towels are definitely a personal preference. long nap seems to be most loved. the long nap to me just doesnt have enough bite to remove polish/compound. love me some purp-nality!

I`ve been using the yellow Kirkland towels for a couple of years now. I have a "thing" about using them on paint. However, I use them on door jambs, trim, vinyl, leather, and just about any interior surface. I don`t wash them with my other towels; however, I do use the same wash settings and the same microfiber detergent. I have noticed that the Kirkland towels tend to roll and get very staticky and stiff after a few washes. Other than that I think they`re a great bargain.

I loved the Meguiar`s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel they were short nap, but car OCD got the best of me and I stopped buying them because of the tags. The tags sewn into the edge of towels are enough to get me to not buy them. The older I get the more I realize time is money. Like others mentioned, trying to remove the tags with out leaving any behind or wrecking the towel is very time consuming. On top of that every time I use one of the towels I second guess myself that the tag is completely removed. Any of my towels that had sewn in tags are used for interiors.

Man I thought I was the only one who prefers lower pile microfibers. I also prefer a loop weave over the "stringy" weave. I`ve got no problem with overlock edges as long as they pass the cd test. Dunk them in water, wring em out as much a possible, and use `em to dry the car with a drying aid that flashes.

I`ve got the kirklands but I pretty much use them around the house. There`s microfibers in almost every room. Ripping off the tags leaves the edge ragged but my biggest peeve is how after a few washes they no longer fold up "square." But I`m neurotic and these are basically supposed to be disposable.
