    DP / McKee`s Paint Coating

It was time to get my 10 year old daily driver Infiniti G35X ready for winter. So I finally decided to use the DP/McKee`s paint coating I received for signing up for Connect almost a year ago. Just a bit nervous as this was my first attempt at a coating. But after reading all the comments about how easy it was to use, I decide to give it a try.

Before applying the coating I took the following steps.

    Wash with 3D Pink Soap
Clay with Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge – Fine Grade
Polish with Wolfgang Finishing Glaze 3
Prepped with Wolfgang Perfekt Finish Paint Prep

I decided to use a plain yellow foam pad and it worked out great. This coating was super easy to work with. If you ever used Opti-Seal before, you`ll have no problems at all. It spreads, flashes and even smells like Opti-Seal. I should also mention no high spots at all during the process. After 12 hours I decided to give it another coat just in case I missed any spots. I`m super pleased with the results. Super glossy and super slick is the only way I can describe it. Can`t believe I waited this long to try it.

The photos don`t do it justice. It was getting late in the day and the lighting was not that great. Now to see how well it handles the wonderful New England winter.

Good to see you had a great experience during your first application ever. I went through the same exact thing, my DP coating was my first coating ever tried and I have been very happy with it so far. Hard to beat it for the price.

Two coats will do it! Your car looks great, and I love the color changing leaves in the background.

That`s what I`m hoping for. I`ve been using FK 1000P for the last 8 years as my winter prep. It gets me to at least the start of April.

Thanks Ray. I`d much rather have palm trees in the background though.

Re: DP / McKee`s Paint Coating

Used it on a few friends cars this summer after decon/compound/polish routine. These are cars that see little regular cosmetic maintenance and I see the cars periodically. So far, they look just as good as when I applied it and stay much cleaner according to owners. Kinda makes me question the real-world difference between something like McKees and the more expensive coatings, outside the close scrutiny of OCD-ish, detail oriented people.

Living in NE Ohio (Cleveland) I`ll be able to watch the performance of these coatings on a few daily drivers over the winter.
    - 2016 Crystal Black Silica Subaru WRX w/ Wolfgang Unber Ceramic, topped with Gyeon Cure every month or so
    - 2016 Aegean Blue metallic Honda Civic w/ Kamikaze Miyabi (x 2) and Kamikaze ISM, topped with Kamikaze Overcoat every month or so
    - 2016 Soul Red Mazda CX5 w/ McKees Paint Coating
    - 2014 Silver Ice Metallic Checvy Cruze w/ McKees Paint Coating, occasional Gyeon Wet Coat application

If`n they all come thru the Cleveland Winter in the same shape, gotta really question the `boutique` coatings tru value

Yeah, I can echo what the others are saying. I bought the McKee`s coating earlier this year and I have been very pleased with what I`ve seen so far. And, I`m a sucker for coatings in spray bottles

What`s a good booster for the McKee`s coating??

mk37 is pretty awesome. ease of use. low cost. great durability. i put essence under it to give it the extra gloss.

just don`t like the sprayer. feels like a hit or miss when i`m misting product out

i thought I was the only one that didn`t like that type of sprayer. I would like a squeeze type sprayer with a fine mist for those type of coating and booster products.
