    REVIEW: Ultima Acrylic Spray Wax

Greetings. As another fortunate fella to receive a free bottle of this spray wax, I extend my thanks to Ultima and Autopia. Thanks!

Being that this is probably the last review of that group, you`ve seen the other reviews. I won`t get into some of those details already pointed out; rather my experience with it.

In Southern California, it`s been hot for quite some time. No different the day I got the bottle. So much so, I was breaking out in a slight sweat while I used the spray wax as a drying aid, out in the sun. No shade for the drying. Why not? Cuz within two hours of receiving the bottle, I went during my lunch break to the local coin-op to use it! They don`t have shaded area for the drying area. Coincidentally, I happened to have my freshly laundered MF towels with me.

So....Aug 16th was the day I got the bottle.

First. I used it as a drying aid on the windshield. I lost a few pics, so I can`t show the difference it made here. But, it helped. It was hot out, and and water spots were forming. Easily seen on the front glass. I had a 50/50 showing water spots on the side where I didn`t use the spray wax as a drying aid. Eventually I did, cuz who wants to drive with water spots on their car?

Next, I used it on the passenger side (P/S) door. This was my prior test panel for the Ultima Flawless Finish System done back in April. I chose to use it here, as I had noticed the sealant of the UFF system was wearing off on the upper portion of the panel (you should be able to see this with the water behavior in the video). I wanted to see if it would help bring back it`s hydrophobic action. So I wiped the upper portion only.

Up next, was the driver side (D/S) door. This panel has not received ANY form of paint correction, LSPs, etc. NOTHING here. Not even clayed. Gross, I know. Sorry guys. Please refrain from banning me. This is my test car, after all.

About a week later, I followed up and used it on the P/S quarter panel.

    Observations:

    - slickness. Yes. It makes the panels slick. Most noticeable on the UFF door panel. So smooth and slick. Comparing it to the quarter panel (prior to application of the spray wax) on the same side, it was obvious. The quarter panel isn`t so bad, as it had received a light polish back when I did the 3D paste wax testing. -- On the D/S, it was less obvious. The rough surface of that panel made it harder to feel the smoothness, but it was still apparent enough comparing it to the quarter panel next to it. So yes, it does add slickness, to prepped surfaces as well as unprepped.

The slickness did go away when I checked about a week later.

    - Streaking. I experienced faint streaking on one panel. The C pillar area. But some of that evaporated in the heat. The very little that was left, I wiped away with a more dry MF towel.

    - hydrophobic action: refer to video.

    - ease of use. Very easy to use. Much like the UFF system, it was very user friendly. A novice shouldn`t have issues with it. Whether a light mist, or sprayed somewhat heavy, it was easy.

Pictures: They give an idea as to the temps I was working in. The Yaris has a slight curve to it on the sides, and I noticed the lower section was about 10* (round about) cooler than the C pillar.

All in all, it`s a good product. While the slickness doesn`t last long, the hydrophobic qualities do. At least 6 weeks, in my case.

NOTE: Please excuse the error in the video. I meant to include the high pressure soap at the "one month later" interval, but I was having some hiccups and it didn`t upload properly. I don`t want to take the time to remake the video (editing takes time) and then spend more time uploading it.

Re: REVIEW: Ultima Acrylic Spray Wax

I am very impressed with the product and was awarded the product by another forum for review. And I was not expecting much... Slickness while cleaning is unparalleled from any waterless or rinseless I have ever used... HOWEVER, some way and some how, that tremendous slickness is gone 30 seconds after final wipe. It`s weird. There is a remaining slick feel... but nothing approaching the initial wipe and drying passes. The residual slickness does diminish and it does not approach a freshly waxed/ sealed surface. Protection is pretty wild for a the combination of a waterless + protection. I typically use D156 for jambs and side windows for lower level jobs after cleaning during my wet work... and there is no question that Ultima Acrylic WW will replace that. The product has been on the hood of my truck for the last 4 weeks and D156 would start really falling off by now... UAWW is beading and sheating water at a tremendous rate for it`s age and hasn`t showed much degradation in its behavior. The cleaning power is actually pretty good too... not revolutionary but on par with ONR. It wouldn`t approach Meg`s Rinse Free Express... but that doesn`t matter at this point because the product is gone. User friendly? Yup. I abused it- over application on a hot panel in full sun with 90 degree ambient... there was some streaking... but easily removed by working smaller sections. If used in a garage or in the shade... product is a pure breeze. Marring? In full sun, hot panel that surely was dirty... I did not notice any marring. I am sure there was some `some where` because I was touching the paint... but nothing I noticed.

YW, and thank you A spray on wax that lasts is always good! And at the current pricing, it just edges out the OCW and Megs UQW (in spray bottle sizes).

Thank you for the kind words. It does take time, especially the video (I`m not good with that stuff). Sometimes, seeing is better than words can describe. Thank you for the feedback.

No joke man - videos are hard to do! Not only from a technical standpoint but you introduce a ton of variables plus speculation on your techniques (and even possible mistakes). You can control your content a lot easier by only using photos.

Heck yeah. So many variables. Mistakes-a-plenty!

Photos can present their own set of....issues. I haven`t posted a thread about a `67 VW I did, mainly because I`m dreading going through 605 pics (not a typo) to find a handful to post. Well, in that particular case, I want to show the process more than the before/after.
