    Ultima Beta Test Correction Kit

First off, thank you Autopia for this awesome giveaway!

Full album - Ultima Beta Test Kit - Album on Imgur

Ultima has been one of the most recommended brands on forums for some time. They make products for both interior and exterior use, but one part of the brand that was missing was paint correction. These upcoming products are sure to fill that gap.

The beta kit contains the following products:

    1 – 12oz. Fine Cut & Polish

    1 – 12oz. Final Polish

    1 – 12oz. Paint Sealant

    2 – 16”x16” Yellow edgeless microfiber towels

1 – 16”x16” Blue dual pile microfiber towel

    1 – 6.5” Orange (cutting) foam pad

    1 – 6.5” Maroon (polishing) foam pad

    1 – 6.5” Red (finishing) foam pad

    1 – 6” DA polisher backing plate

The pads seem very well constructed. The back Velcro part seems more reinforced than other pads I’ve used; I would imagine this gives them a firmer grip on the backing plate. It also keeps the pads from bending or becoming deformed. However, this could be an issue for those that like to wring out their pads to dry them, because this won’t be possible on these. The pads don’t feel any different than other cutting, polishing, or finishing pads.

The bottles were a nice 12oz. size. The squeeze tops were fine. Nothing really to note here.

The backing plate fit perfectly on my Porter Cable. I initially tried to get it on my Rupes 21, but the rubber cup got in the way of the screw and wrench, so that was a no go. It is also well constructed and feels sturdy. A nice rubbery-plastic feel to it.

The microfibers were also nice. I didn’t get to wash them before use, but they did not shed anything off them. They performed great and look forward to adding them to my collection.

Ultima Cut & Polish is orange in color, and has a slight citrus smell to it, which made it pleasant to work with. It cuts fast and leaves an almost LSP ready surface. Depending on the color of the car and how severe the swirls/defects are, I could see this being used as a one-step product. It produced almost no dust, and left no stubborn oils behind. It cleans up effortlessly.

Ultima Final Polish also had a nice scent to it. It is purple in color and smells like grapes. I will have to test this further on its own with different pads, same as Cut & Polish. Like the former, it left no dust or oils and cleaned up no problem.

Both correction products were a bit watery. Not really an issue, but they did seem to want to run off my pad when I held it up vertically for pictures.

Ultima Paint Sealant reminded me a lot of Menzerna Powerlock and Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0. It goes on very thin, spread very easily, and cured in about 15 minutes for me (outside temp was about 50 degrees). It wiped off without giving any resistance and did not require and more buffing.

I followed the directions as stated on the paper and bottles and the results speak for themselves. The car had some deeper scratches that I didn’t chase, this was more of a brief test run to see how the products performed. At first I tried all the products with the included backing plate on my Porter Cable. It certainly made a difference, but after I tried the pads on my Rupes 21 and everything performed much quicker and smoother.

    Conclusion:

I am very impressed with this kit and how everything performed. It was very simple to use, you don’t need much product (three dime sized drops per pad/section), it didn’t dust or leave oils, and left a beautiful finish on the car. When this kit (and respective products) become available, I highly recommend picking them up. You won’t be disappointed. If I had to compare the correction products to the brands I`ve tried, I would say they remind me of Blackfire & Menzerna brands, mostly because they seem to use DAT.

No haze. It was probably the way the sun was reflecting through the trees.

    Thanks!

Couldn`t tell you about the pads, I haven`t used those before. But from looking and their site, they certainly look like them.
