Trim Restorer Reviews - Black Wow Pro and Poorboy`s World

I was fortunate enough to win these both as a part of Autopia`s Massive Vinyl Protectant Test *UPDATED 8-21*

    Items received 8/21/15

    Black Wow Prewow Pre-Cleaner:

Price- $14.99 for the 4oz bottle. However the one shipped to me is a 6oz bottle and doesn`t seem to be available in Autopia`s store.
Scent- I don`t remember too much of any smell. Maybe a hint of strawberry like the restorer?
Description- Finally an easy to use trim cleaner, that gets the job done quickly!
There is no other product that will permanently remove wax or polish stains from trim as effectively as Pre-Wow Pre-Cleaner. When using Pre-Wow, it will clean without drying, and won`t leave any streaking behind. Very simple to use, and will not harm your paint. It doesn`t have a pesky chemical smell either, it actually smells surprisingly good!
Like Black-Wow Trim Restorer, it is super concentrated so start off by using very little product (about the size of a pea), and add more product as needed.

    Black Wow Pro:

    Price- $69.99 16oz
    Scent- Strawberry
Description- Black Wow Professional Trim Restorer is a conditioning gel designed to quickly and effectively restore your trim’s natural, rich, and factory-fresh appearance. Poorboy’s World:

    REVIEW:

For this comparison I tested these restorer’s on the side mirrors of my daily driver. Both were cleaned using Meg’s D101 at 1:10 and a nylon brush. Starting with the driver’s side I chose the Black Wow products.

Driver side mirror all cleaned up. As you can see they need some love. Also the plastic varies in texture and shading. The lighter plastic was rougher and more porous.

I chose to use the Black Wow Pre-Cleaner on a cheap MF towel and worked it into the mirror. I didn’t expect for the cleaner to really darken it at all but it made quite the difference with just that step. I buffed it with another MF towel to make sure there was nothing left behind and taped off the mirror.

Ready to apply the Black Wow Pro.

I applied two coats of Black Wow on a foam paint brush letting each coat soak into the plastic for a couple minutes before buffing. Consistency was that of a watered down gel. Not really watery or very thick and very easy to squeeze out of the bottle without worrying about using too much.

    After two coats…………

Now for the passenger side mirror and the Poorboy’s World Trim Restorer.

I chose to use the Tuf Shine applicator for this restorer because though thick I find this applicator doesn’t eat up the more watery products. Poorboy’s Trim Restorer spreads forever and saying a little goes a long way may be an understatement. For those that only work on their personal vehicles this could possibly last them forever unless you decide to use it on tires too.

    After two coats…………

    Both mirrors all finished up…

    Conclusion:
I really like both products so far. Both have definitely brought some color back to these mirrors but as you can see there is a massive price difference so we will have to see how long they last. Black Wow after applying two coats and setting for a few minutes had a very slight greasy feel. The Poorboys however was completely dry to the touch. Both look good and more even in color this morning. I will follow up soon for durability and I also want to see how both of these perform on tires, so more to come.

    Thanks for looking.
    Matt.

Great comparison review - thanks for posting it. I need to get moving on my review now!

Of the two which one do you think has the most natural look? As in looks like a brand new factory part vs one "wearing" a dressing? I ask because to me, the photo of PB Trim Restorer looks way more "natural" then Black Wow which kinda reminds me of a black magic marker.

One aspect of a dressing`s performance that almost always goes unreported or unnoticed is how well it resists leaving an oily looking film on glass after a rainfall. For example, a piece of outside weather stripping that borders a window needs dressed or coated, but which product won`t leach onto glass after a rainfall? I have this issue and have yet to find a dressing or sealant that actually dries 100% and will stay that way.

Great comparison and review. Looking forward to updates to seeing how they perform after exposure to rain. I am curious if either product will run.

Now that the Black Wow has soaked in over night it is about tied with both looking natural. Neither have a sheen looking like a dressing was applied. The very slight oiliness of the Black Wow is also gone.

I was going to make a joke about how California doesn`t get rain but it actually just sprinkled for a minute. However unless it pours while driving home I don`t think I can comment anytime soon about the products transferring over to the glass. Maybe after the next wash? These both feel completely dry to the touch. I will spray both with water when I get a chance and see if it makes them feel oily with moisture.

Thanks. I wasn`t really sure how to do a decent comparison/ dual review so it feels lazy to me but I will try to make up for it with updates! I really hope we get some real rain out here again soon. I want to see my products at work! Oh yeah and we need it here pretty bad too. At least I can review on extreme heat and direct sun conditions though.
