    HD Odor Eliminator

    Reviewed by darkonion (duh)

    Detailing ability: Noob

    Ease: Easy

Price: currently listed at $10 for 5oz. (7/26/2013)

    Why?

Simple... my car is a 97 Subaru Impreza. That`s 17 years old. 200K miles. Lots of road trips. Lots of fast food. Lots of smelly people. I don`t notice it, but I am pretty positive it smells.

    About the Product:

HD Odor Eliminator is an odor product. It`s pretty much an odor fogging product of sorts that you set off in your car or in a room, and let it work its magic. The product is packaged in a 5oz aerosol can with a trigger that locks in place to release the product.

    Directions:

Pretty straight forward. Point the top of the can in a direction that isn`t your face. Lock the trigger in place. Place it in your car on top of a folded paper bag, close the door, and let it run its magic.

Only thing is that I don`t think you need to run the full can in order to get a desired effect. I ran the fogger about 3 or 4 minutes and that seemed to suffice. Maybe for a bigger car, you might need to run it a little longer, but for my sports compact, 3 or 4 minutes was more than plenty.

I also don`t think it`s a bad idea to apply the product at night. Set off the fogger before you go to bed, seal the car up (by closing all the doors and rolling up the windows), and let it works its magic overnight. Just open your windows half an hour before you use the car in the morning.

    My thoughts on the product:

I can`t really compare the product to any others, but from a completely noob perspective, it was super easy to use. My only concern is that I don`t like to waste product. Unfortunately, there are no directions on how much or how little to use. Like I mentioned before, I just ended up using the fogger for about 3 or 4 minutes max to get the desired effect. Even in some sense, I think it might have been a little excessive. Maybe 2-3 minutes may have been enough.

Other notes... I think it is the can I got, but I had trouble locking the trigger down. I found out you need to press down and hold for a few seconds before it locks. Unlocking the trigger is pretty easy. Just snap it out of the lock position and the fogging will stop.

It`s been about 5 days and the fresh scent still seems to be pretty evident. I had a few friends ride with me and they did notice the new scent, and didn`t say anything negative about it. I guess it works.

Overall, the product seems to be working out just fine. I think it is a good product. Application was easy. Results were evident. I don`t think you can go wrong with this product. I think a can could easily allow you 2 car worth of applications. Possibly even 3. I think what may be helpful for the direction is a rough idea of how much to use for what size vehicle.

At a $10 price point, I think a single application doesn`t present very good value. But if you can get 2 or 3 applications from a can, I definitely think the Odor Remover presents a great value.

FWIW, I have experienced the same as far as difficulty locking the trigger down on the two cans of this I`ve used thus far. It may just be the nature of the beast, but it is annoying.

    Nice review!

Thanks for doing this review Kevin! You comments will certainly be forwarded to the folks at 3D/HD. Hopefully better directions can be implemented to avoid this issue being a concern with other people. I`m glad it`s still smelling good! Especially on a car this old and with this many miles! And without any other pre-sanitation cleaning measures!!

Here are a couple of suggestions that may insure optimal effectiveness of this product:

I would 1st clean the interior of the vehicle. This will further insure that the cause of any odors be rectified so that this product could work more effectively. I don`t feel that the interior needs to be totally dry before using either. The moisture could actually help the product to penetrate deeper into the fabric. And due to the enzymes it could also prevent any odor issues during the drying process.

I would also suggest running the air conditioning system both during the treatment, and for about 30 minutes after. Make sure to select the RECYCLE mode so the product will keep flowing through the ventilation system.

$10 for a single application is really nothing if the product is effective. I spend that much or more on each DrivePur treatment I provide. For a part timer business owner or just a person with an odor issue that is a banging good deal.
