PRO Gauge II Powder & Paint Thickness Gauge

I saw this while I was checking something out at Eastwood.

    Pro gauge II thickness gauge

I would like to hear from anyone who has it or has tried it.
I know that paint thickness gauges can be expensive, but for under $50.
It may save somebody alot of headaches from going through some older thinner paint or a bad respray.

I`m even curious on how it works

Wow never saw that before. I assume that there is some type of magnet in it and by the amount of paint depends on how stong the magnet works? Not sure how exactly it works... but then if it were a magnet, it would`nt work on fiberglass... but if it does work consistently than it may be a very useful tool, thats for sure.

yes it does work by a magnet and the thinkness is related to the strength of the magnet.

What about areas on the car like bumpers and certain panels that are simply painted plastic?

I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN THAT..
I left them an email asking if it came with any warranty at all .
No sence in spending 50.00 if you cant return it if your not satisfied.
We shal see what they say.

Just got an email back and there is a 60 garantee with this item. If you are not satisfied for any reason you can return it.

From what I have asked and heard about them they aren`t very accurate. When wetsanding and buffing afterwards, you need to know the mils of a paint down to the tenth of a mil. I can`t see that being able to do that. The pro gauge II or the $500 ETG A or I won`t work on any plastic, fiberglass, or aluminum surfaces. They will only work with metal that have magnetic properties. Plan on spending about $1000 to get a meter for non-ferous body panels.

    Hope this helps,
    Chubs
