Finally got that video to load, damn dial up! So almost 7 minutes and 105 was shown for 9 secounds, great, ya`ll weren`t kidding about the short work time. I got a quart and can`t wait to try it. It would have been nice if the video had told what wool pad that was and what speed the makita was running.

They recommend the W5000 double sided wool pad. Run it at 1500 rpm.

Ryan, did you buy the W5000 pad with your M105, or did you just get the M105 by itself?

    Rick,

I found that in the cold temps turning down the rpm to 1100 or less reduced the quick gum effect. I was using a soft wool 8" pad, not a heavy cut.

I hope to use it again on another car and will try out different methods of attack. either way this stuff is pretty crazy at thet ability to remove defects quickly.

My question is how much clear is removed.......someone break out the PTG and give us a ball park idea. Calling RAG!!!!

    Cheers,

    GREG

Yeah chefwong - for real. I live out in the country, I hope the Time Warner guys get the cable out my way soon or at least a DSL from Embarq.

On the other hand, there`s no neighbors, or home owners assoc. to tell me what I can or can`t do on my own piece of dirt.

I did 2 passes today with M105 and a yellow edge wool. With my PTG it removed approx 0.1mil or less. This was on a black Infiniti M35.

Bryan, what PTG did you end up buying? I was looking at them today online and I am thinking about purchasing one. Any recommendations?

Silva - I do live in NC, however, they just haven`t run the cable my way - it`s about a mile away now.

GMBlack3A - I heard Infinity paint is very soft. You might want to try that on a few others to confirm.

Actually its not on the soft side. At least on the black M35s and G35s that I have polished, they have a sticker on the underside of the hood that says something about a "hard" clear coat. Its not corvette hard, but no where near as soft as porsche clear. This is all IMO, your findings may differ.

I had a 3-4" wide area in the middle of the hood that I taped off. I was taking readings with my Defelsko Positest DFT Combo. I removed the moderate defects with the 2 passes of M105/yellow edge wool at 1500. I then did one pass of UF with the blue 3M foam pad. I removed the tape, wiped down the area with Z6 to ensure that no tape residue remained.

I then took like 10-15 readings on the corrected and uncorrected areas. More then half of the readings showed no reduction in thickness. I tried to take them right next to each other as close as possible.

    Thanks for posting that!

That`s still a fair bit of clear (around 1/3 of what can ever be removed) but it`s not outrageous.

Yeah, taking readings is a skill, those ETGs aren`t foolproof by any means IME.

Still waiting for my PhaseII gauge to come back from being repaired....
