Finish Kare (FK1) Pink Wax - Reviewed

    Product:

Finish Kare 1 Pink Wax (paste wax)

    Price & Price Per Ounce:

    $14.70 - 1 lb.

    $.92/oz

    Manufacturer Claims:

"Excellent For Extra Show Car Depth And Gloss. A Modern Blend Of Carnuba And High Grade Polymer Resins Which Deliver An Ultra Deep Glossy Protective Film. The Cross Link Of Polymers And Carnubas Hold Up Were Others Break Down In Heat And Caustic Environments.

A Must For Surfaces Exposed To Tree Sap. Will Fill In Light Surface Scratches. Easy On Easy Off."

    Packaging:

Comes in a white tin with pink writing. You have to use a key or flat-head screwdriver to pop it open. The packaging is very durable, but also very `old school`.

    Color/Scent/Viscosity:

The wax is pink in color and seems to have a "wet" look to it in the packaging (most pastes look matte). It gives off a very strong chemical odor but I didn`t note any cleaning abilities. The wax has a tendency to chunk up a bit, but I didn`t find a problem with use.

How I used (as per instructions):

Applied with a brand new yellow foam applicator in very thin coats to two panels at a time. Once on, I went right back and removed via Meguiar`s Supreme Shine MF towel. The wax went on very easily on a clayed/polished surface once the applicator was "wet" with product. It spread for a nice amount of time and didn`t have a problem going on thin. The product came off without problems even in areas applied thick (for testing). For slightly better results, I spit shined (applied wax, spritzed some QD on it, then removed).

    Overall Thoughts:

This wax blew my socks off. Yes, it`s a heavy wax and is not well known at all. However, there was a noticeable improvement in wetness, clarity, and overall richness of color (depth). The slickness bumped up a bit as well. Beading with this wax is pretty neat to look at as it`s usually very tightly spaced, large/tall beads. I have used it over a sealant (Zaino) and wax (Natty`s). Both times it went on and off easily and both times it improved the appearance.

    Other Notes:

Great on dark colors. Haven`t tried it on anything light yet. Stay tuned to this thread for durability updates.

Sounds like an interesting product... keep us posted on the durability... if you leave it on long enough.

    Sean,

Did you have problem closing the lid? Man, it pissed me off, I cant close the lid closed all the way. So, what I did was dumped all the wax into a Topperware container(10oz type). I was wondering if you encounter those problem.

klnyc: No problems with closing the lid. Did you try contacting FK?

The Woob: I agree. The red looked like it was going on forever.

I did, but calling FK1 won`t help. They don`t know how to fix it.

    Doesn`t bother me though.

The depth in that Red is unbelievable. I am trying to achieve that with my Grey. I think this is going to be my next purchase.

Re: Finish Kare (FK1) Pink Wax - Reviewed

Nice review Sean -thanks for sharing! I`ve applied Pink Wax on dark and light colored cars and think it adds a lot to the appearance. Tdekany raved about it last year, and I can see why!

I also asked FK about the lid, and suggessted a threaded lid that will screw on, vs a push down lid. I haven`t had problems with mine yet..... If I do, I`ll just put on the lid as best as possible, and seal it up in a zip lock bag.

Last time I spoke to them about my lid, they indicated that
they might try out some another closure design, but nothing concrete
as of yet. Plastic is out of the question, because of the high
temps the wax go through in the processing. For me the situation
is really bad, becuase now it looks like the wax is actually leaking
through the seams. I have to keep it in a plastic baggie, otherwise
I have wax residue all over the counters. Next to the super
moldy buildup in my almost new Finish 2000 wax can, and the
SSR spit-ups this has to be the wierdest thing I`ve dealt with.

But damn if aint worth it.
