While out at an autocross this past Sunday, we were running on wet concrete and I was the lucky soul to meet the fence with the passenger rear corner of the S2000.

I love autocross and it`s a blast, but things do happen.

Onward to the pics of the damage and slight recovery.

The pics may not show the scratches that are still left, the silver hides them very, very well. My thoughts now are to try some touch up paint in the spots that are gouged. Let them set up, then level them with a clay bar. I`ve read a post on doing this on S2ki, it may not be perfect, but might suffice until I have it painted.

As far as the small scratches that are still there, should I look into finding a paint thickness meter and possibly wet sand those spots back into a smooth surface?

I wouldnt think twice about wetsanding those out. As long as you dont go nuts with 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, etc then I highly doubt your going to need a $600 paint guage for that...just being honest. If it was me, Id sand it out with 2000, refine those scratches with 3000 (research cross hatch sanding) and start compounding/polishing. It looks like a pretty easy fix. Also, if it requires any touch up paint, do that first and then sand it flat when your wetsanding. Clay wont do squat for leveling it out. My only concern is those areas on the sharp body lines. Unless you have some serious skills, you might be better off leaving that alone or finding a glaze or polish with a ton of fillers, and just hiding that. You would really be flirting with disaster going very hard on those spots. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the advice! I`m going to give it a shot, after research, trying the bumper first. I`ll have to take my sweet time with the sharp edges, definitely don`t want to burn through.

I think, ultimately, you will have to live with many of those scratches. You can do the touch up thing, but silver is very difficult to match (not as bad as red though).
