How do you guys recommend cleaning/dressing the plastic around the exterior bed and bottom panels on a Chevy Avalanche?

Clean well with APC and dress with CG New Look Trim Gel (if darkening needed) or Ultima Tire and Trim Gel. Both last a long time - Ultima maybe longer.
Poorboys Trim Restorer does a good job on them as well.
I just picked up some Solutions Finish Trim Restorer at Detail Fest. I had the chance to talk with Chris West from Solutions Finish. It looks like a great product. I am planning on testing it this summer on the rub rail of my boat that sits in the water all summer.

I recommend a APC, like Meguiar`s and these fine product`s I recommend to restore and protect that area ; Poorboy`s Trim Restorer, Solutions Finish Trim Restorer which is on my Mazda now, Sonus Trim & Motor Kote and Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus will work for you and just like Beemerboy mention that maybe a an application problem is doing this to you that`s on my mind also.

tuf shine with their clear coat on top. 1 year in florida and going strong. Great stuff
Cleaning
Cleaning is fortunately pretty straight forward and any all purpose cleaner and a scrub brush is generally the way to go.
Protecting
There are a ton of quality products on the market to keep your plastic rich looking and well protected.
- PERL
- Ultima Tire & Trim Guard
- Meguiar`s Ultimate Protectant
- PoorBoy`s World Trim Restorer
- Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant
- Sonus Trim & Motor Kote
I would think that many of the tire gels would be right at home protecting this trim....

That would not be the case here, to prep I start with a pressure washer followed APC and an aggressive brush to get all the dirt off, then rince with the pressure washer again. I apply the different products that I have tried with a foam block and wipe it down in 15 minutes and wipe it down again the next day.
Still I can find drip marks within a week, so I just have not found the best product yet.
I have an avalanche also. Tuf shine. No drips, no runs. Black as black can get
I would recommend Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus. The more I use this stuff, the more I am impressed. It is, IMO, one of the best dressings available.
I agree Todd!
I`ve been using Ultima Tire & Trim Guard for about 2 years with exceptional results! But since I`m the kind of guy who like to try out new products and stimulate the detailing economy I tried out PERL by CarPro.
I used it according to the instructions on the label plus Corey and a few others have tested it and posted their dilution ratios. I believe I used 1 part water and 3 parts PERL.
It sprays on easy and is milky in appearance. I let it sit on the clean tire for a few minutes then wipe down with a Microfiber pad. It does leave a nice even color.
After a couple of hours I gave it a second coat following the same procedure and it`s been about 2 weeks and the tires still look exceptionally crisp.
Just wanted to let everyone know....
