I recently detailed this 1990 ZR-1 Corvette with only 6K. original miles. Probably one of the cleanest C4 Corvettes I have ever seen. The car has always been garage kept since new, so the weather stripping, tires, windshield, interior, etc. are in excellent shape for a 15, almost 16 year old car. The only problems these cars have is that the paint from the factory isn`t the greatest and doesn`t compare to modern day paint finishes. Like I said, the paint wasn`t in that bad of shape, but if you get close to it it almost looks like acid rain damage but is very common on these C4 model Corvettes.

The car definitely looked good before I detailed it, but it lacked gloss and depth. I knew right from the beginning that this car would come out insane with the proper detail.

    My Process:

I didn`t have to wash it because I had washed it a couple days ago and has been sitting in the showroom since. I dusted the tops off with a California Duster.

I used Nylon Spotter solvent to get any grease & tar off the bottoms

Buffed complete exterior with IP by rotary with polishing pad

Buffed complete exterior with FPII by rotary with finishing pad

    Hand application of AIO

    Hand application of RMG

    Hand application of Natty`s Blue.

(I still need to polish the wheels and seal the black molding around the center of the car)

I have to say that the car looks absolutely amazing in the showroom. Even sitting next to Ferrari`s and Lamborghini`s ! The red just looks incredible.

    Here`s the pic`s:

Excellent job! You were right on your choice of products, I`ll bet that car didnt look this good when it rolled off the assembly line.

    Thanks!

I am very happy the way the car came out. I didn`t want to use anything harsh on the paint because there was no need. I kepy my speed down low and took my time. I bet you`re right that it didn`t look as good from the factory. It sure looks good now!

    Looks great!!

Something caught my eye, though. Is there a reason for the additional orange peel below the `line` where the hood ends in this pic?

The bumpers are painted off the car, that could be a reason...Or a repaint.

Great work!!! Vette hoods look soo sexy when detailed.

Nah, the whole thing is fiberglass as far as I know. My bet is that they put additional flex agent in the nose cone`s paint, and that caused the orange peel. :nixweiss:

This car is 100% original and has absolutely no paint work. All C4 Corvettes have similar same paint issues. There are a couple other C4`s on the lot that look the same way. Not much you can really do except wetsand, but I think I`m all set with that. I think I heard from someone that all the 90-91 Corvettes sat outside in the rain for months at the factory and almost all of the cars top surfaces were repainted by the factory.
