    1985 Porsche Carrera...Operation swirl city!

    1985 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet
    Black/Black
    29,636 miles
Original owner, vehicle is all original

Owner stated that his vehicle needs some attention. Statement of the year! I don’t believe this poor Porsche has ever been touched properly in its entire life. Surface was swirls city! Full of swirls, squirrels, scratches, hazing, and just dull/lifeless paint. Let’s breathe some life back into it!

    The ‘details’:

Gary Dean shampoo. (finally used up the last of the gallon I had)
    Medium clay mitt.
    Adam’s Tire and Rubber cleaner.
    Adam’s wheel cleaner.
    303 ‘vert top cleaner.
    Master blaster to dry.
    Scangrip lighting.
    DeFelsko PTG.
    Flex 3401.
    Flex pixie.
    Rupes iBrid.
    Griot’s Fast Correcting Cream.
    Griot’s Perfecting Cream.
    Optimum panel wipe.
    22ple Mistico Elemento Forte.
    GYEON Tire.
    Auto Finesse Glass cleaner.
    McKee’s37 Fast interior cleaner.
    Metro vacuum.

Crazy what you can do with 35 year old paint.... nothing prettier than freshly polished black paint.

    Sizzle Chest:
Was this single stage paint used during this era, mid 80`s, of Porsche production?? You did not show pics of the usual single stage paint residue stains on the pads from your correction process, which leads to believe this black 911 was clear coated.

Man, you got A LOT of washes from the Gerry Dean`s wash soap. 20-25 maybe?? I lost track. Not sure on your sentiments or opinions about this soap or if you bought just to try it at a "reasonable" price (Yes, his detailing products are expensive for what they do, in my opinion) at the time of purchase, and if it were THAT good, you would be buying more. I assume you will be utilizing your choice of the "more economical and pragmatic" Adam`s Car Wash Shampoo or even their newer offering, Adam`s Strip Wash for coating prep.

Just tell Darth Vader not to let the Storm Troopers wash his vintage Porsche anymore or at least learn some proper Autopian washing techniques.
May the "Mistico Elemento Forte" be with you.

Re: 1985 Porsche Carrera...Operation swirl city!

^^^^Base/clear. Initially I thought it was single stage due to my pads getting extremely dirty/black. However, when polishing by hand, not much `color` came off. It was very similar to tinted clear. VERY strange, however, I finally figured out that it was METRIC TONS of heavy embedded dirt in the paint that I was removing. Only compounding/polishing removed it. I was perplexed at first!

I don`t count. I had a gallon of it and am now glad I am finished with it. I had to use a LOT of product to get the suds/lubricity I can with other brands. I will not be using it again. (I will be trying Adam`s strip wash to see if I like it)

LOL at your Star Wars references! Clever!!!

Re: 1985 Porsche Carrera...Operation swirl city!

I sometimes wonder HOW dirt like you`ve experienced above gets embedded into clear coat. I`ve physically clayed vehicles and the clay piece is SO brown or black (iron contamination and/or road tar), its hard to believe that the paint/ clear coat is really like that. (Yes, it is old fashioned and does scratch/swirl clear coats on badly neglected vehicles, but it does clean the clear coat before correction.)
I sometimes wonder if fine clay soils that are very sticky and tree sap where the vehicle is kept and driven combine to form a film that just clings and embeds itself onto the clear coat and in time, with the help of the sun, on this black paint/ clear coat get "baked into" the clear coat. "Regular" car washes may not remove this film, and on black, this film may not be so visible, even though the paint looks clean.
Just my surmising hypothesis (big words, Captain Obvious, for "good guess", with NO emphasis on "good". Just sayin`...) as to what may be happening here.

It could very well have been Lonnie. And over 35 years it just accumulated.
