    2020 Mercedes Metris

    2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris Transit Van
    Pocket Blue (single stage!)
    3,000 miles

This is kind of out of left field for vehicles that I typically do! Client just picked this up for hauling stuff around/his business and wanted it coated. It was full of swirls, scratches, marring, and water spots. During my test spot, I found out that the paint was single stage! Surprise surprise! She cleaned up pretty well and there were acres of paint that needed correction and coating!

    The ‘details’:

    Waterless wash with McKee’s37 N914.
    Adam’s wheel and tire cleaner.
    Adam’s wheel cleaner.
    Medium clay mitt.
    DeFelsko PTG.
    Scangrip and GYEON lighting.
    Flex 3401, The Beast!
    Foam cutting and polishing pads.
    Misc. MF towels.
    Adam’s surface prep.
    Adam’s Graphene ceramic coating.
    GYEON tire dressing.
    Auto finesse glass cleaner.

    Thanks for looking!

    Sizzle Chest:
What compound and polish did you use for your "test spot" and I assume, for the rest of the correction & polishing processes?
I also assume that the water spot removal was done by compound abrasion and not a chemical water-spot remover, since none was listed.
Who makes that "hex-patterned" foam pad? I assume this pad was used because of the single-stage paint involved to reduce the heat generated from compounding.
I understand why you would use a Flex 3401 on this paint-laden monster of a vehicle.

I am curious WHY Mercedes chooses to use a single-stage paint on such a vehicle, other than costs-reductions.

Nice job on the Metris van. Now you can feel "other" detailer`s pain who do soccer-Mom vans, although they do not have painted panels where side windows normally are!!

^^^I listed it above, sorry I forgot to put in my original write up! M205/Adams finishing polish.

Yep, I mechanically removed the water spots.

They are some old pads that I had a bunch of. Believe they were Adam`s original `cut` and `polish` pads if I`m not mistaken.

I believe they use it just for cost savings. Can`t find out any other info on why they use SS on these!

Looks awesome, Scott. I guess I didn`t realize single stage paint still existed in this country due to EPA regulations, etc.

That turned out nice! Surprised to see single stage paint, though.
