    Ford Expedition

    2018 Ford Expedition Platinum Edition
    Black/Black
    14,122 Miles

This is a long term client of mine. I’ve done numerous vehicles for them over the years. This is their newest daily driver.
The paint was absolutely hammered. FULL of swirls, scratches, water etching, and did I say swirls?
It came in for a simple one step…left with a 2 stage correction and a coating! LOL.

    The ‘details’:

    SCG Pro shampoo.
    Adam’s wheel cleaner.
    Adam’s tire and rubber cleaner.
    Misc. wheel brushes, MF mitts.
    Clayed via Griot’s medium mitt.
    Master Blaster dry.
    Scangrip lighting.
    DeFelsko PTG.
    Flex 3401.
    Misc. foam pads.
    M101.
    Griot’s Correcting Cream.
    Adam’s coating prep.
    Adam’s ceramic coating.
    Adam’s VRT tire dressing.
    SCG Pro glass cleaner.
    Metro vacuum.
    McKee’s37 quick interior detailer.

    Thanks for looking!

Have an `07 version of that in Tri-Color Sand (i.e. strange metal flake white that has darkened over time). Big beasty and hate the Scorpion series of tires on those things. If the owner complains about fishtailing in it, new tires from a different manufacturer are in order. Love the recovery on that black Ford paint!

Thanks everyone! T-man, 22ple was not in the budget for this client.

Adam`s coating is a good coating, easy to use, the durability of it around 1-1.5 years depending on maintenance and if it is kept garaged/inside or not...

Excellent work. You truly are a magician on black paint. I have a Ford Mustang with black paint and I know the paints are not the same but would love to know what pads you used to maybe use same combo on my paint.

    Thanks

CarPro Flash Pad? I thought those were only used for spot repair. I bought two a long time ago and always forget I have them.

That’s a lot of real estate to polish. How long does it take you to complete that type of job?

    Sizzle chest:
I noticed you used M101 and GG Boss Correcting Cream, but no true polish for the final finishing/polishing?
Does the GG Correcting Cream finish out that good IF the right pad and buffing machine are used? I assume it has more to do with the skill of the buffing machine operator (YOU!).

I also noticed that you used the Flex 3401 rather than a Rupes Mk21 or GG Boss 21 (or the 15s). Any reason WHY the 3401 was chosen for this particular paint?? Was the clear coat hard or soft?? rlmcarty2000 beat me to it in asking how long time wise it took to finish out the exterior "real estate" on this land yacht.
I also assume that the paint color Shadow Black on this Expedition is a true black, and has no metal-flake in it. Sometimes subtle metal flakes do not show up so well in photos.
As usual, excellent work. (What, no interior carpet striping photos??) Love your photos of the exquisitely detailed vehicles in front of your home.

I am with "coatings=crack" on Ford black paint; it is difficult to get right. Being the owner of a black 2006 Ford Freestyle we bought from my Mom when she could no long drive (black is not my color of choice, but it is better than silver!), I have given up on getting it perfect. It`s a daily driver and after a winter like we`ve had in Wisconsin (snow brushes and many rinse-less washes on extremely dirty sand/salt/binder TRF), I know perfectly well why it looks EXACTLY like the Expedition you detailed.

I can’t believe they swirled that thing that bad in 1 year. You did an excellent job on it. Hope you told the owner the proper way to wash it or it will be back sooner than later

    Re: Ford Expedition

Yep, I like the way those flash pads corrected on this. Wool wasn`t doing `it` for me so I gave them a shot and was happy with the initial cut of them!

Yes, a lot of the Griot`s creams are pad dependant...they can be heavy cut, medium, light or a finishing in my experience. Very versatile.

I just needed to cut and chop that big thing down so that is why I went with the 3401.

I only had 2 days with that beast, I probably had 12-16 hours of correction work into it.

Non-metallic paint. And yes, he now knows how to properly care for it!
