    2008 Jaguar XF Supercharged

    2008 Jaguar XF Supercharged
    100,000 +/- miles
    4.2 liter V8, 420HP/413TQ
    0-60 4.9 sec
    Operation Hammer Time

This big cat was in serious need of some paint correction!

Insane swirls, scratches, marring, haziness, oxidation, the beginning of clear failure, water spotting, etching, etc…

It took a variety of compounds/pads/etc to get what it ‘liked’ dialed in, and I had to be cautious and conservative in my approach in certain areas in order to preserve the clear and not compromise it in any way.

All in all, this kitty turned out like a black diamond and was one of my greatest transformations to date!

    The ‘details’:

    SCG Pro car shampoo.
    MF chenille mitt.
    McKee’s 37 Iron remover.
    Adam’s APC.
    Sonax wheel cleaner.
    Adam’s tire and rubber cleaner.
    Misc. wheel/tire brushes.
    Megs degreaser for engine compartment.
    DeFelsko PTG.
    Scangrip lighting.
Flex 3401 and XFE15, Rupes iBrid.
    Misc. wool and foam pads.
    Griot’s Fast Correcting Cream.
    Griot’s Perfecting Cream.
    Misc. MF towels.
McKee’s 37 high gloss tire dressing.
McKee’s 37 Hydro Blue to seal wheels.
Adam’s Trim coating for engine bay area.
    22ple Mistico Elemento Forte; LSP.
    SCG Pro glass cleaner.
    Metro vacuum.
    McKee’s 70/30 leather shampoo.
    Adam’s quick interior detailer.
Pinnacle exhaust cleaner and brightener on exhaust tips.

    Sizzle Chest:
Thanks for posting pics of this Jag and, as usual, your end results. Some questions (also as usual, Captain Obvious!):
    1) I did not see any pics of the interior. Was this as bad as the exterior? (NO, I am not dissing the owner. These are the condition of vehicles most professional detailers see the majority of the time. I am just glad he reached out to you to have this prized Jag properly detailed.) I assume your signature vacuum striping to the carpets was done.
    2) I have never see painter`s tape on trim, decals/placards, or weather-stripping in your photos during the correction process on ANY vehicle. I assume you prefer not to use it and will clean up the mess later or are rather "careful" with the buffer during its use, rather than spending time taping the fore-mentioned exterior pieces off.
    3) How close was the clear coat to total failure or flaking off from the oxidation? Was it a hard clear or a soft clear?
    4) How do you decide on what type or brand of coating (or wax) to use on a particular vehicle? Customer consult or do you just pick one you think will work for that vehicle?
    5) How is the new rubberized flooring working out for you? Likes and dislike?

1.) Interior had a lot of dog hair and was dirty. I did it, but concentrated on the exterior, and due to the time spent on the paintwork, I didn`t take many pictures of the interior. I did not `stripe` this one! lol

2.) I generally will not tape off the trim/etc. I am pretty careful around it and have gotten good at not gobbing product onto/into it! I do, however, still tape off some, but it depends on what I am working on.

3.) Clear was medium to soft. It was not on the verge of flaking or cracking, however, in spots it still very hazy/oxidized/thin in areas that I had worked on and nothing I did would correct those areas. (I also didn`t want to `hit` those areas very much/hard due to the condition of the surface)

4.) I will talk to my clients and see what they are expecting/how long they plan on keeping the vehicle/etc in order to make that decision on coating choice. As far as wax/sealant, that would be my decision on a `show car/special car` or if their budget is not in the `coating` range.

5.) My floor is not rubberized, I forget who had that installed, but mine is an epoxy based product.

Hope this answers your questions and glad everyone is enjoying my post!

My BAD about question #5; that was Mike Lambert in Maryland who had the new rubberized flooring put in over his old tile floor.
    New floor in shop

In fact, I think I even asked you about your flooring; please see post #5 in this thread link: (Senior moment! It`s heck not to be able to remember.)

Thanks for answering my many-and-varied questions, now and in the past. Inquiring detailer minds want to know...
