    Camaro ZL1

    2018 Camaro ZL1
    935 Miles
Black w/Carbon black trim pieces/accents/carbon hood
    10spd auto, 6.2L supercharged V8
    650HP/650TQ
    0-60 in 3.5 sec, ¼ mile 11.4s @ 127mph

    “OPERATION HAMMER TIME”

This black muscle car came in on referral. The owner saw another black Camaro I have previously corrected and coated and wanted the same treatment on his muscle bound beast!

For a brand new vehicle with such low mileage, the dealer really did a number on the finish. It is FULL of swirls, holograms, hazy paint, scratches, poor repair attempts, etc; that have resulted in even more holograms, VERY thin clear in some areas (1.2m range) and some hurt clear in areas. My client is very upset that his vehicle looks as it does, and was noticeably upset after I went over the vehicle with him under my LED lights.

I’m hoping for a huge turnaround and explained that some areas I need to tread very lightly on and around. I will be taking my usual approach of being conservative with the correction; while attempting to achieve as much ‘%’ of correction as possible while taking this avenue.

    Onto the meat and potatoes!

Great job as usual! That was some mighty thin clear on that vehicle. It always amazes me to see a new vehicles in that condition. It’s like dealers try to do a bad job. Maybe people just don’t notice or don’t care?

    Thanks all!

rl: I`m not sure a a lot of people notice; as long as it`s `shiny & clean` they`re good with it.

    Sizzle Chest:
Is the 1.2 mil thickness you measured out-of-spec for a GM car, IE, have you seen this thickness in other cars in similar areas of such vehicles? It also re-enforces the need for a paint thickness gauge (PTG) if you are serious about total correction and avoiding big "oops" when correcting such areas, as I imagine that burning through paint in such areas could easily happen.
When you mention dealer repairs to this exterior, do you think they were the culprits for such thin paint? I am just wondering what specifically they were trying to "repair".
Did you come back and do your signature "striping" of the carpeting later because the photos do not show this very well if it was striped. I like it the way it looked in the photos, personally.

And I must concur with others above; you really do amazing detailing work, especially to wheels. I cannot thank you enough for posting pictures of your detailing workmanship, and that goes for other Autopians in this forum as well.

Geez. A new car looking that bad is sad. A new ZL1, even worse.

Thanks for making it look great!

    Re: Camaro ZL1

    Thanks everyone!!

    Lonnie: Thank you!!

I believe they were attempting to remove some scratches. You can still see them under the mess they left. As for some of the other areas, I have no earthly idea what they were trying to do!

NO! This is absolutely not normal for any vehicle, let alone a brand new one. Those thin reading were only in the areas that the dealer touched. The other areas had decent readings: 3.5-4.5`ish.

I did not do my signature stripes on this vehicle...I figured hot rods/muscle cars/race cars don`t get them! LOL
