Something different. 1968 AMC Rebel SST convertible!!!

So this job has been on the books for a while now as he wanted it completed before a upcoming show this weekend. These Rebel SST convertibles are quite rare from what Ive been told. This particular one has the original interior still and has had some paint work done over the years. This was a challenge as some paint was single stage and other areas had a very very very hard base/clear. The goal here was to bring the gloss and clarity back while not causing any more harm. Special attention was paid to areas with thin paint, chipping edges etc etc.

So the car got a 2 step on most of the major panels except for the hood and one of the rear quarters that had base/clear on them. Those areas had some very bad sanding marks, holograms etc and needed some rotary/wool action first.

Tools- Rupes 21 Mark ll, Flex Pe14, Rupes duetto, Flex Pe8, Adams swirl killer mini

Great work on a cool muscle car! Well well done! (I`ve never seen one of these before! Kinda looks like a Mopar a little bit)

Yeah you don`t see the AMC Rebel around much at all. First one I have really seen too.

I’m with Scott, looks like a Mopar. Very cool and awesome work. Looks like you got to use all your polishers on that detail. Hope the car does well at the show.

Did you know there were different paint types prior to polishing or did you find out after you started polishing? I feel like on some cars you can almost tell just looking at the paint if it’s BC/CC or single stage.

The car was so swirled out that it was tough to tell. I did a test spot initially when I booked the appointment and it was on the trunk lid which was single stage.

Great work. Red looks so incredible when it`s done right. I grew up in that era and I can`t remember ever seeing one of those cars.

Thanks. Yeah my in-laws happen to be over checking it out before the owner came by and they had no idea who made it! Once I said AMC they didn`t even know that AMC made a Rebel.

I remember the name, Did they still make the Rebel in the early to mid 70`s but it looked more like the Matador?? The early to mid 70`s were bad years for a lot of car companies as far as style went IMO. AMC put out some really funky cars in those years.mPacer, Matador, Hornet, Gremlin, etc.
