    Trashed metallic black Jaguar XFR

Quick entry today. A buddy of mine wanted a cheap, but fun-to-drive daily driver, so he bough this 2010 Jaguar XFR - it has 120,000 miles on it, but remarkably, the interior was excellent, and the body panels were ding-free.

What WASN`T so great was the paint itself. Wow - a lifetime of swirl-o-matics sure does do a number on a car`s paint finish!

Three of us attacked it together, using two FLEX 3401s, and a Porter Cable, with the Ibrid Nano for small stuff (this tool has easily usurped my PE8 - I can`t remember the last time I pulled it out of the bag!)

We were on a fairly restrictive timeline, so apologies for the lack of pics, but I wanted to show you guys what we achieved.

-Weirdly, even thought he paint looked terrible, after washing with Iron-X, we went to clay, and found the surface to be completely contaminant-free. I figured that the dealer had perhaps done a perfunctory pass with a clay mitt or something, but it was smooth as hell. Strange.
-Entire car done with Menzerna Fast Gloss and Lake Country yellow CCS pads, followed by Menzerna 2400 and Lake Country Orange CCS pads
    -Wiped down with Eraser
-Finished up with Jescar Power Lock. We were going to apply CQuartz UK, but at the last minute he decided the Powerlock was going to be OK coming into winter.

Here are a few before pics (obviously, haha) - while the swirls were unbelievable, there were actually only a few scratches that needed to be worked out by wetsanding.

    Afters:

Thanks for viewing! This was fun - the three of us triple-teamed this one, starting early in the morning, and finishing up by suppertime.

This is a fun car to drive. To compare, in straight-line speed, we ran it up against the third guy`s 2012 BMW 550i with full bolt-ons and JB4 piggyback tune, and the Jag crushed it from 30-120 mph. I was expecting the suspension to be super soft and boring in typical Jag fashion, but it was actually more than decent!

Thanks again - have a great weekend, everyone.

Beautiful recovery and it needed triple teaming for sure. Good choice for the Powerlock too, I`ve been using it for a while now also.

    Great job. Looks awesome.

I love Powerlock as well. It`s just SO easy to remove. I don`t know why I don`t hear about it more on here.

Really nice work. It looks great.

I did find it a little bit funny to associate a Jag with 120,000 miles to be cheap. These things can get very expensive when they’ve been around the block a few times.

It doesn’t surprise me that the surface was contaminate free. Judging by the paint it looks like it has visited the automatic car wash on a daily basis since 2010. There was an automatic car wash in my hometown where you could get an unlimited yearly pass. I bet that former Jag owner was a 7 year member of that club at his car wash

That might be the most swirled paint ive seen posted. It honestly looks like it was wet sanded!

The correction turned out incredible. Great work, very impressive!

Nice Job!! I`ve started using Powerlock over Collinite 845. 845 has been leaving residue on paint and requires a lot of effort removing. Powerlock has been great. Still use 845 on plastic trim.

Re: Trashed metallic black Jaguar XFR

Thank you, all. It did start off in pretty rough shape, but it was fun doing it - spent some guy time together with the boys, threw on some tunes, and shot the ```` all day. Only downside was that the owner had JUST purchased this house, and this (secondary) garage wasn`t heated yet, so we used a diesel-powered shop heater. It stunk like hell, and I think we all lost more than a few brain cells inhaling the fumes, hahaha!
I love those days - start off with a project, work with a couple guys you love like brothers, and end up with something that looks better than when you started.
    Win-win

    Enjoy the weekend, everybody!

Definitely a killer turnaround! The paint definitely looked almost wetsanded!
