1998 Ford Expedition: 174,604 unloved miles

Had a friend buy a boat and needed a tow vehicle...he found this Expedition for $1200.00 and I wanted to gloss it up a little bit.

It has seen 174,604 unloved miles. Major swirls, scratches, hazing, dull lifeless paint, trim was shot, etc, etc.

    Waterless wash
    Clayed
Compounded with Rupes 21, Griots MF pad, Hi-Temp fast cut compound, McKee`s 914 for final wipe down, Adam`s Ceramic Boost for LSP, Blackfire tire dressing, McKee`s trim restorer on trim, Adam`s glass cleaner.
Not perfect, but a ton of defects were removed and the gloss was amped up substantially. The trim looks excellent now!

He is stoked that it looks this good!

Sizzle Chest- Hey, great work, bet he`s thrilled!

Put a refinished set of wheels on that and nobody`d ever guess the miles.

Oh, and it was great to see somebody still using Hi-Temp`s Fast Cut, thought I was the only guy here who even remembered that stuff

Scott - how do you like the McGee`s Trim Restorer compared to Solution Finish (if you have used both)? Looks good on that old Ford considering

Anytime I see someone list a 20 year old vehicle with that kind of mileage I instantly picture a rusting hulk as I`m used to our NE climate. Always blows me away how well a vehicle will hold up without road salt and our winter climate. Truck really came out nice. I`d say its a great buy!

I`m sure there is no buyer`s remorse once you finished with it.

I was thinking the exact same thing. This Expedition would be a perforated, rusted, POS in WI after 20 years.

    Nice work Scott.

    Thanks everyone!!!! Appreciate the comments!

Grungy: I`ve used both. I like the McKee`s...easy to use, no worry of staining like with Solution Finish. I need to do a durability test between the two!

Ron: Dunno...don`t like doing boats!!! LOL

Looks great! Makes me miss our mint 2001 we traded for the Jeep a month ago. Those things are behemoths and take a time to just even wash! That Ford white is super easy to work with though, just takes a long time!

Heh heh, you guys talking about how any 20 YO beater in the Salt Belt should be expected to rust away make me feel good

Sizzle Chest- When I got my beater-Tahoe, it was a *LOT* worse than that despite having fewer miles...a set of refinished wheels and new (gloss black plastic) sideview mirrors made all the difference.

Hey, I forget...is the HT FC the one they also sold as "357"? If so, that`s my Product of Last Resort for rubber seals in *terrible* condition. Can`t let it dry on `em, but it`ll exfoliate the rubber without leaving white stains if you do it right.

    Thanks Nizmo and Richy!!!!

Accumulator: Nope, this is one step down from 357 Magnum! I`ve got a bottle of that still too!!! (may have to give it a shot on some trashed seals!)

Ah, OK...yeah, sounds familiar now that you`ve reminded me. Oh man did we go through those products back in the day when I had the dealership.

Wonder if the Fast Cut would work OK on seals too...gee, I`d hate to try and have the "well, what did you expect...using a compound on rubber?!?" type disaster happen! But if it *does* work OK, it oughta leave them a lot less chewed up than the 357.
