This is a neighbour for whom I did Finest on his BMW convertible (he still raves about it). This is his new daily driver and noticed that it had something drip onto the driver`s door when he had it parked in a parking garage. It didn`t look too bad, but it took some work to eliminate...more on that later. This vehicle was to get the regular CQuartz.

First up was to clean the wheels. The tires were cleaned with Zep 505, the wells with LATA, the barrels with Zep Citrus and Megs HW with a Daytona brush and the faces with Zep Citrus and HQ using a demoted mitt.


The vehicle was foamed and then washed with Megs HW. It was brought inside and clayed with a clay towel.


The vehicle, other than the stain, was only going to get a one step polish however the stain was going to get what it needed. I started with Megs M100 and a 3D black wool pad + 3401 and that was not doing much. It was becoming readily apparent that this stain was not going to be easy to remove. I then bumped it up to Chop Top which is an amazing compound, but even it was very slow to remove it. I also tried some chemical cleaner compound that Jerry made for me years ago that got rid of a similar stain before. Even it was not effective on this stain. It had eaten into the paint. I kept at it with CT until I got it knocked down. I checked my paint gauge several time to make sure I wasn`t going too far. Like a dumbass, I forgot to shoot it specifically afterward, but I did get it removed. The rest of the vehicle got a one step of M205 + yellow B/S + 3401. It was wiped down with Eraser prior to coating. The wheels, paint, side and rear glass and exhaust tips were all coated with regular CQuartz. The windshield was coated with Fly By 30 and the tires were shot with Opti Bond from an air gun. The trim (there was acres of it-was done with DLux). Just over 10 hours later, here she was:

Ron, I made the mistake of underestimating what it would take to remove. It made me work, LOL.

Thanks kindly! The tires are shot with Opti Bond (cut about 30-40%) through a small air gun (I`ve got a video about it if you want to see) and then I level it off with an applicator. The trim was done with DLux. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

That`s weird: on Tapatalk on my phone, I can see you found the video. Viewing it on my computer at work, it doesn`t show. The only thing I`ll add is that if you have really low profile tires, you can just spray the applicator and then apply it that way. It still does a better job IMO.

That stain looked like a lime/concrete type stain that had eaten into the clear. What did you try Chemical wise to remove the stain before compounding?

Good question. Strong soaps and clay were my first line of offence. Since I did not know the source of the stain, my first shot was a light compound followed by a chemical cleaner that had worked very well in the past on a stain on the paint of a Solstice I did. When that did nothing, I was in it for old school`s ways.

Wow, I thought the truck was black in the first few pics then when I saw the finished pix I had to go back and look again. It was so dull and dirty it appeared you painted the thing not detailed it!!
