Honda Civic and Honda Pilot headlight restorations

Full album here - Honda headlight restorations - Album on Imgur

Saturday my friend and I had made plans to give his Golf a maintenance wash, and he asked if I could clean up his parent’s headlights on their cars as well.

The Civic’s weren’t too bad except for that mystery spill. I didn’t sand the headlights to begin with, just compounded with Blackfire SRC Compound on my Rupes Mini with a 3” Meguairs microfiber cutting pad. I followed that up with some Blackfire Finishing Polish on a 3” Lake Country white finishing pad to refine the compound.

I sent a picture to anther member of the headlight in question, and he said to try wet sanding the light with 2 or 3k sand paper to remove the spill. After trying 2k, it did nothing to the marks so I left them as is. I went over the light again with both the compound and polish after wet sanding to remove any extra marks I put in. The owner was happy either way that the haze was gone.

The Pilot’s lights were much worse, there was noticeable yellowing in them (that my camera didn’t want to pick up apparently).

I dry sanded them with 500 grit to start, then moved to 800 dry, and proceeded to wet sand with 1000 and 2000 grit. The pictures don’t seem like anything really is happening, but in person they were getting noticeably clearer with each sand paper grit.

I then compounded and polished with the same method as the Civic.

Both were cleaned beforehand with ONR and clay. Finally, the lights were all wiped down with Carpro Eraser and coated with CQ DLUX.

    Thanks for looking!
