94 VW Corrado - Single Stage Black

This car belongs to a member of one of the local car clubs. Growing up, this was one of my favorite cars, nowadays it`s hard to find a good example, this was no exception. 20 years has taken it`s toll on the oxidized single stage paint and faded trim. The current owner has a decent wash process and likely wasn`t the direct cause of most of the swirls. When I initially met to evaluate the car it was in a dark garage on a very overcast day; the swirls were obvious and it was clear that it had some oxidation, but the extent of the oxidation wasn`t clear until I got it under some stronger lights, the paint was literally gray under scrutiny. As is often the case, the owner didn`t even realize how badly the paint was oxidized until I sent him a photo of the test spot. We had agreed on a polishing step expecting 80% correction on the soft black paint. In most places we were able to go well beyond 80%, save for the plethora of rock chips.

    Tires & wells - Megs D103 & PERL
Wheels - Megs DUB & Permanon Platinum
Foam presoak with BH surfex HD and CG citrus wash clear
    2BM with Citrus wash clear
Clayed with speedy prep towel and ONR
HD Adapt with tangerine hydrotech pads on rupes 21, GG6 (4") and HF 2"DA, also some by hand with MF towel
    Exhaust with S100 polishing soap
    BFWD as LSP
    Trim with UTTG

    On to some pics.

    General condition of the paint

Test spot on the hood, pleasantly surprised with the cut and finish of Adapt on the single stage. It did gum up in a few spots, but that seemed to be an issue with the pads being slightly damp between swaps after every section.

    Front quarter panel

Rear quarter panel, just a few deeper scratches left, this panel had been repainted and was a bit harder than the factory paint

Wheel faces and barrels all cleaned up

    Couple finished shots

Any more pics of the whole car? I have always liked the Corrado.

Yup, I`ll get some loaded up this afternoon. Some will likely still show trim taped off, but I`ve got a bunch.

Nice Save! Love the Corrado! I had two Sciroccos in the 80s and always wanted a Corrado. I can`t tell you last time I saw one in the road. Auctioneers likely exporting them.

My favorites. Glad you saved this one. Great job.

Had two G60s and a Turbo VR6 back in 2004.

Here`s a select few more. I thought the front corner shot was going to be much more flattering, I was very wrong; rear quarter is where it`s at on this car.

Adios S6- I too like those cars, and you sure did a nice job on that one!

Was the repainted area done in single stage or b/c?

It was also single stage. It was a very good respray. The thickness and hardness were the only real giveaways. You`d have to know right where to look and get at a tight angle to see the blend in the c-pillar.

Thanks. It was definitely one of those cars where I was struggling to hold myself back from doing a lot more than I was getting paid for. The SLC badge residue was a big itch that needed scratching the whole time. I had to photoshop it out of one image for my desktop background.
