2013 BMW 335. Owner got the car a few weeks ago, hasn`t driven the car much (went on vacation) so I was hoping the paint was in good shape. But its BMW jet black so I knew it might not be. Unfortunately, once the car was built, it sat in the factory for a couple weeks, then a couple more on the docks before being shipped. Between that and whoever washed the car, it has a lot of marring and spider swirls. The passenger side was a lot worse for some reason. I was hoping I wouldn`t have to hit the paint too hard to remove the defects, that usually turns a jet black BMW into a 3, maybe 4 step polishing job since aggressive polishing mazes it up pretty good.

Doing a couple test spots, it seemed that 3D HD Polish and an Optimum microfiber polishing pad and speed 6 on my PC was doing a good job. Most areas I had to polish twice, but rather do that than have to get aggressive and end up doing even more steps. Didn`t take any befores, it was 35 when I started and low 40s when finished. Just too cold to worry about pictures, wanted to get right on it and work so I`d warm up.

ONR wash, Optimum nano-skin to spot clay

3D HD Polish using an Optimum microfiber cutting pad (a few tough spots I added some HD Cut and used the Optimum MF cutting pad) and my PC 7424 XP on speeds 5-6, two full polishing steps on most areas, a few took 3-5

3D HD Polish using a Meguiars foam polishing pad and PC on a few areas with light micro-marring-edge of the hood where it curves and the curved areas on the sides were where I noticed it

ONR wash-using just the weight of the pad and towels to wash, any real pressure would introduce light marring

Optimum Opti-Coat on the paint and wheels

ONR wash and wax cut 32:1 to clean the glass

Armor All to dress the tires/fenderwells

Only a few afters, short driveway so really couldn`t get too much variety in the pictures anyway. Plus I was cold. :lol

The owner was very pleased with the look, said the difference was very noticeable between when it was washed after polishing and then coated.

Thanks, Thomas! Got an RS5 on Sunday and an Escalade Monday to Opti-Coat. Might have to start buying it by the gallon!

Nice comment from the owner on my facebook page today:

Since we`re going to have a few sunny days in the near future, I decided to wash all the grime off with ONR and see if I could keep from F`ing up the clear - looks like with the opti-coat on I can! Thanks again Scott!

So there is hope for BMW jet black clear!
