A year and a half ago I purchased a 1997 Toyota 4Runner to see if I would like the SUV thing. The Yota was garaged and babied all it`s life by an older woman. I purchased it and practically disassembled it to clean and detail every inch inside and out...and underneath. Much was done mechanically to make it top notch all around. It served us well and we grew to love Yota. In fact, we put TWICE the mileage on Yota than we did any other car we own. The SUV experience was great and while Yota looked like new I didn`t worry too much when I left it in a parking lot. So since all our time was spent doin` the SUV thing we decided to move on up. I advertised the 4Runner on a Toyota T4R Forum and in Craigslist. A link to my website showed over 100 detailed photos. I had all the records since day one, including the original window sticker. It sold in less than 8 hours and I had one guy willing to pay me $$ OVER asking price if I would ditch the first guy in line and sell it to him. I took the high road.

    Yota`s last day.

After probably 6 months of research and driving everything from new and used Toyotas, Nissans, Land Rovers, BMW X5`s, Porsche Cayennes and more, I ended up with a new VW Touareg TDI Executive. The torque of the diesel is intoxicating. Over 400 ft lbs. This thing scoots! Build quality is fantastic. It`s super quiet and luxurious. And highway MPG has already hit 30. It`s longer, lower and WAY wider than the Yota. So maneuvering it around my Sanctuary is taking some getting used to. I have already covered the front end, hood, front fenders, door sills and rocker panels in clear film.

I`ll miss Yota a lot. But I look forward spending many years with Treg.

It`s pretty amazing. Very easy to use and great graphics. This is my first car with NAV so we are excited.

Congrats, TDIs are awesome. Make sure you give everyone the speech about what fuel to put in it. They don`t take well to gas and VW likes to void warranties when they find out. And along those same lines, get ready for the "Hey Mister, you`re putting diesel in your car!" or they won`t even turn the pump on till you come inside and explain.

Yea, that`s what sold me on the TDI. It`s so effortless and quiet. Tied with the 8 speed transmission it`s really smooth.

Brad B.- Ah, interesting change! IMO the two SUVs are more different than one might firsth think (the VW being more "car-like"). What`s your take on how the two compare?

How`s the interior configuration of the VW compared to the Toyota?

Mercy, I would have a hard time deciding which to drive... the Carrera C4S or the 2002tii?!

Torx bits on my lugs would make me so nervous.
